Right what do you all reckon about speed and looks.

I have noticed that Mr Storey only really cares about his speed as he calls other cars sluggish etc.

Now being only 18 i think looks are a lot more important hence why i have my pug cos in my opinion i love its looks.

What you all reckon, have a crap loking car and loads of speed or vica versa.

Now ians car looks good and is speedy, but he has had a lot of time to do it.

at our tender young age mate its got to be looks with a pucker install!
its the only way to go, and when u get an old fart then go for speed :p

Well when i bought my nova. I thought go for looks.

Unfortunately to be different you've got to spend some serious cash.

So i've decided to go for speed this year and looks next.

Must admit though it does make me laugh to look in Max Power and see 1.1 dimma 106's, 1.1 Saxos, and 1.0 corsas done up to the eyeballs.

B-)As long as people are still having promiscuous sex with many anonymous partners while at the same time experimenting with mind-expanding drugs in a consequence-free environment, I'll be sound as a pound!B-)

I obviously want my car to look nice, especially as I have had some very nice looking cars in the past, but anybody that knows me will know that I will not do anything to my car that will sacarafice performance. My current car is built for speed and nothing else and if it looks good along the way, well thats just down to chance. I will not spend any money on rust removal on my rear arches until I`m happy with the performance, but I would like it to be clean with a nice respray.

I went for looks(ok,Im trying to make it look good) and then I thought Id have a bit of luxury inside,then I thought I cannot do this and have it performing n sounding like an asthmatic snail,so Im seeing about a cam now,I got a K&N,and am collecting BB4 ont hurs(for looks that is,not performance tho) if I had the choice,I would balance the looks n speed thing out,otherwise they seem silly in the end,take that corsa in MAX a couple of months back,with the full cossie arch kit on and that,would you,do that to a 1.0?-I would consider it on a 1.4 sport of SRi,but for smaller engined cars,I think GSi/GTE/SR looks are as far as you can go,my personal opinion,but if u have all performance,you can go for the balls out kits,or keep it as a city sleeper pocket rocket...I aint helping am I?

yeah looks first for me, insurance is such a wanker I can't really afford to mess with the engine too much. I have tweaked it a little, adding a K&N and exhaust but thats about it, Big Brkaes and good suspension and a strut brace are the way to go, if you can't afford the insurance. I have gone for looks and spent my cash making the car look nice. Im not that bothered about speed, my 1.4sr is quick enough for me, Im having enough trouble avoiding speed cameras and police with this car let alonne with another 100 or so horses in the engine bay !

so i only really care about speed? well errm whats with the big "aerodynamic - yeah right" body kit, and 17s, i bet if u gave mc some 17s they wouldnt get near his car, how can you say all i care about is speed, when i have one of the most kitted cars in the country, you have obviously lost the plot big time.

ps last time i heard K&N and full exhaust systems were perfomance enhancing mods davo.
and seeing as you discuss my car so much, fancy posting a pic of yours? love its looks? its a standard common pug get a grip, and yes i am being nasty and no i dont care.
how the hell can you diss peoples modified novas when i wouldnt even call yours modified.

i know it need some stuff doing to it like lowering, but like i say i want to spend my money on having a good time clubbing, and cars just dont do it for me.

im happy with my car at the mo. thats all that matters :P

I quite like speed, but it's also good to have a nice looking car, so I'd go for both.

Saying that though, imagine how much fun you could have if you got a basic 1.0 standard, and all you did to it was lower it, fit some cheep 14" vaux alloys, then had a 2.0 Turbo under the bonnet!!!

No kit, not even an SR bumper or tailgate spoiler.......image the looks on peeps faces as this 1.0 standard nova kicks their arse! lmao.
The ultimate Q car! :D

I'd love to do that, but I'd be too temped to fit a nice kit and 16's

no offence to those with 2.0's and above but id prefer to have a mint looking car than a fast one.

Cause its a hell of a lot cheaper to do and keep than big engine conversions and high insurance and i mainly like the cruises and stuff for looking at mint cars...always good to see huuge engines though before u think ive got something against them.

Oh and im only 20...so engine mods are a no no

See, thats my evil plan, i got a 1400, but i am modding the engine, the only thing that is diff is the weber carb, k&n & zorst, the rest of the stuff is invisible to insurance, cos how often do they pull an engine apart to check it?

I am getting the bodywork sorted, hopefully everything may be sorted for the august billing, if i hurry up and finish my bumper!

So, i am aiming for 100bhp out of my ikkle baby, which will be enough for me.

And it will look nice, plain & simple, gsi bumpers, skirts, 14" wheels(for acceleration, but mite go to 15"), gsi vents in bonnet, thats about it, but like i say, i just want nice, plain & simple.

u stick a splitter on your bumper you sacrifice speed for looks straight away

mines shit at top speed but nice around town and im happy with the way it looks
i would rather it looked good then just blasted past espesh with all the grief you get nowadays but as u prob know

now im happy with looks i have been fiddling with the motor (u got to spend your money on summit!)

but the splitter is less drag than letting the air go under the car and get caught up on the exhaust and other stuff.

4 me its got to be speed. No ifs and buts. Looking good is cool too but not if you aint got speed. As 4 ice - well it gets in the way of the best sound in the world ... a well tuned beefy engine. Some peeps spend loads to turn their motors in mobile sitting rooms and i just cant see the point. Fortunately being old I can afford a bit of speed and if caught speeding the pigs will always let me off with a puny fine cos obviously I'm more responsible than the rest of u lot:p

Davo you been robbing tractors again! I want speed and looks and i am 19 with a 2ltr 16 valve soon and 17" wheels, exhaust, filter, lowered and not to bad a insurance all will be done before i am 20. So there you can have it all when you are young!

for me its LOOKS definetly!!!!! cos i'm not no racer, plus the roads round here dont cater for high performance cars, e.g cameras etc, plus i'm only at the tender age of 17, i know for a fact if i slap a valver in my nova i'll be dead within a month!!!! i'm leaving the fast cars for wen i'm abit older, yeah my m8's take the piss cos i only ave a 1.2 nova, wiv them 17 and 18 19 etc aving r 5turbos, uno turbos, golf gti's etc, but bear in mind i ave a slowish car now, if i dont do nowt stupid i'll be fine to insure a high performance car wen i'm older, bear in mind the cars i've just mentioned, 3 of those ave been written off withing 3 months of them all aving them, whose gona ave the last laugh in like 5 6 years time wen i ave my escort cossie, mr2 turbo, and they are driving round in a 1ltr mini cos they cant afford insurance,

i know i've proberly gone off the plot of the post, but personally if ur young it doesnt pay to ave a fast car, bast start off wiv a small engined car, and build ur insurance up, so u can ave the car of ur dreams

lol i've had slow cars that look nice a concorse 1.4sr and other stuff aswell now i have a fast car that looks std and maybe next year i'll sort out a kit etc but right now it's a ?1500 disposable gocart (when was the last time u saw ian blatting it down lanes at 120mph+?)

i'm going for basic clean styling (on a mk2 1.5TD nova i'm sticking 15's, 'flair' boot spoiler 'yes, the boot spoiler is of a flair mr insurance, not a GSi' :p, colour coded handles, wing mirrors all round, rubbing strips removed, and lowered -40mm)

i'm gonna sort the body styling first though (whilst i'm getting used to the car and actually driving...lol) before i do engine mods...

engine mods are goona include:

raising the boost from 8psi to around 13psi...filter, removal of centre box in zorst, and an ashley 4" back box...oh...and the small matter of a dump valve...which will get my pants moist with each gear change...lol

i choose styling over looks though...to get back to the point of the post! :p

LMAO @ Dirty D Dump valve, they are crap.

There was a 306 TD with a dump valve at Donny, it sounded wank, its the first time i have seen a dump valve on a dirty d, cos they dont build enuff pressure up to blow it off, so a 1500 nova would be even worse!

nope...i keep goin on about him, but he knows his shit...

The Turbo Doctor has put them on about 7 TD cars now...u don't need loads of electrical devices...i dont know how he does it (cos i'm not that technically minded) but i asked him how he did it and he said "do this, then so that" and he baffled me with a technical explanation but he said u dont need any electrical devices...

13psi boost will be enough to make the dump valve sound proper...not a lazy "whhoossshhh"

the Turbo Doctor turbo'd his mk4 escort diesel van for a laugh one week when he was quiet...he learnt a lot about turbo diesel engines in the process...he said there shouldn't be much difference in sound between a petrol turbo DV and a diesel turbo DV...a standard TD nova would sound pish...but one running at 13psi should sound right...his TD escort is running at 13psi and his sounds normal...

anyway...we'll see what happens...

ok then ask him what he does to eg a 1.6 gte to turbo it, does he just strap a turbo on.
i'd like to know how well done his conversions are, is it just turbo and manifold or does he change internals of engine, i don't want to say what should be done or the right way or wrong way, just what does he do.

for me it's looks and i.c.e.! i'm 18, and can't really pay for big engine mods on a car as i'm only an apprentice motor vehicle technician (big name for slave) also is there n e point going for looks if u go for speed as well??? u'll just whizzzzz past them!!!

SPEED definatley. I love it. I've just taken my nova off the road to get the engine rebuilt, and sorted for over 200 bhp, bigger brakes leather interior and it will still look like an sr.
