we constanly write what you can do to 1.4's 1.6 all the time....its simple.

Get a 1.4sr, rebuild the engine.......get weber twin 40s, cam from courtney and gas flowed head and you will be looking at 112bhp at the fly wheel. That was exactley what i did to mine and it was cost bout 1000-1200 after setting up on rollers and labour etc.

If you wana go further then you can get some second hand 1.2 pistons and con rods, have the block rebored becuse the 1.2 pistons are actually wider.......even if you do absoulty eveything with spaning new parts the maxium you bhp you will produce would be around 115-130. The most cost effective thing to buy is nitrous. have it installed correctly with 50bhp jets and it will be sweet.......if you get bored then you could get a progressive controller and inject 100bhp, even if you blow the fucker up you just get a second hand 1.4 enigne for ?25!!!!!

Hope this helps

I would say that the SR engine is worth getting, because there are more mods that will be simpler to do, carbs etc.
Even though the SRI has a higher standard bhp.

the sr is quite a good engine for tuning plently to do to it and can get some rather good power for relatively very little. Ive prob spent about just over a grand on my engine and ive got some where around 110bhp which in stripped out car makes a fairly nippy.

its a miricle, richy b managed to post without suggesting that you throw the engine away and put a LET in lol

to be fair the SRI head is better as its got bigger valves (afaik) and the round type of ports. good for T40's or even just a straightforwad 32/34 (although there are a few large carbs available)

a good strong bottom end will be a good start.

have you looked at the guide for 1.4 8v tuning on this site?

Or stick a 16v head on, and pistons to suit, twin 40's ignition management and you'll see 125-130.

Or stick a 16v head on

Didn't know you could do that. Thought the blocks were different. Can you only do that with 1400 blocks?

cp's 16v has a 8v block
