HELP!!

My car (1.6 GTE) is whining like a bitch. My mechanic reckons its the gearbox. We've changed the oil but the noise is still there. It sounds like a wheel bearing but 5 times louder.
I think my best option will be to swap my 'box over. I have got a 1.3SR 'box from my old engine. Will this fit, and if so will it cause any problems?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

might not fit. I think the GTE flywheel and clutch is bigger like on the GSI and SRI.

is the noise in all gears or just a particular gear..

could be diff bearing or bearing on mainshaft.

hard to diagnose things like this over the net.

The noise in all gears over 30mph. My Vaux mechanic friend says it will fit. Apparently a few people do this swap to give their cars a higher top end. Now I'm even more confused as to whether it can be done or not!

to give your car a higher top speed all you need to do is put in a lower fd or change to a WR box. (like on most of the sr's)

U can try and swap them, but i'm quoting from the haynes manual when i say the GTE flywheels is 10mm bigger than the Sr.
