gotta get some pics of when u get it done mate
no offence m8 but u wont be able to get those arches back to the original shape with that much filler on. if u need any help just ask as ive done it before.
badnova
04-05-04, 06:17 PM
if you read at the top it says im goin to do round arches not original
re-shaping the nova's arches should be a criminal offence
leave them alone :( :(
^^^^^LOL i agree i prefer the original shape

badnova
04-05-04, 09:26 PM
just got one of those detail sanders
prety good for a tenner
get in to places that a normal sander dont
novahead
04-05-04, 09:34 PM
kool it may look a mess now but keep going. :D
where are you getting the paintwork done? Im looking for a decent place around our area
badnova
04-05-04, 09:39 PM
doin it all my self
badnova
04-05-04, 09:39 PM
how much you want doin
nothing right now. Ive just recently spent about 750 on bodywork and paint. Body work is mint i have no problems but im not really satisfied with the paint finish. Just looking for the future
badnova
04-05-04, 09:51 PM
where did you have it done then
nooooooooo dont use a sander!!!!!! they ruin it, i did mine all by hand with 800 flatting paper.
ive tried Bourne brothers in arseley but i really wasn't impressed and also i tried Autoplastics (or something like that) in hitchin. They specilise in bodykit fitting and spraying so should know what they are doing. They are very very cheap but their painting is not world class. they will do re-do it for free until you are happy but i dont want the hassle of taking it back every time i get something sprayed.
badnova
04-05-04, 10:05 PM
im pretty good with a sander
i wasnt but i am now
i use to take to much of but now i got a better eye i can see things before it gets to low and where places are 2 high
i much easier then by hand and quicker
i dont do it all be sander
get it resonable flat and then do the rest by hand to get smooth
badnova
04-05-04, 10:10 PM
i dont know if this place do it but there is a place in letchworth in the ind est
on works road that do accidnt repairs have a look in there
ill ask someone i know where they got there respray done coz that was top quility spraying ill let you know when i know
but the place in letchworth is worth looking into
i would have thought they would have done things like that coz of all the repairs that they would be doing they would respray there car aswell
where about is this Bourne brothers place in arlesey ive never heard of it or even seen it
dave.gsi
04-05-04, 10:47 PM
why would you want to get rid of the nova arches??
there the best bit of the car surely.
it'd be like going out with pamela anderson and making her get a breast reduction. without her tits she'd just be an average fit mum lol
LMFAO thats one way to put it
badnova
04-05-04, 10:50 PM
it be diffrent
every nova i see has the same arches
im just goin to try something diffrent and see what it looks like
might look good and then youll all do it but i dought it
cooper_nova
04-05-04, 10:59 PM

badnova
04-05-04, 11:08 PM

where about is this Bourne brothers place in arlesey ive never heard of it or even seen it
its a bit further on than fairfield garage. opposite the chippy there is a little driveway which leads to Broure bros and arlesey carpets and a couple of other businesses. There is a sign for them where the drive meets the road.
trust me m8 u dont find that many body shops using sanders if u do then theyre shit. its seriously gotta be done by hand because u just dont get the finish wih a sander and u get small dents and it just looks a mess, get your self alot of 800 and start scrubbing it down make sure u use hot soapy water aswell.
i gotta sk u did u have the arch replacment panel? if so u didnt use it all did u? :? there made so u can cut them down i wouldnt use the whole lot. i used about 2mm of the arch on mine! im gonna be doing my other arch now and also sorting all the crap out on the car and also having it re-sprayed profesionally now maybe in black? im not doing anymore work on it sod it it can go in the garage lol.

goin to look such a diffrent car in a few weeks
mate it looks like u have fillered straight 2 paint!
this wont last long if u have
badnova
09-05-04, 10:38 PM
ive ruthened up the paint quite alot before puting it on so i think it will give a good key for the filler to sit on
badnova
15-05-04, 09:08 PM
here`s some more pics as promised
here a pic of my exhaust on now and hole made for that and the flush boot put on but needs smoothing out
also put on the preditor spoiler
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/lee.jones5153/novaload/DSC30094.JPG
new rear arch smoothe as f**k
looks wicked in true life
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/lee.jones5153/novaload/DSC30095.JPG
front arch all smoothed in

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/lee.jones5153/novaload/DSC30096.JPG
the over all look as come out really well i think
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/lee.jones5153/novaload/DSC30097.JPG
so what do you guys think
Things left to do:
smoothe the front bumber out more
fit quad conversions bonnet skin
smoothe the boot panel out
smoothe the door lins out
so in overall a lot to do this week, for spraying next week end

badnova
16-05-04, 11:31 PM
got to do the doors tomoz as well as put on the bonnet skin
got to get rid of the panel lines on the top of the door
You do know that it'll handle like a pig on et38 rims don't you?
Also I'd watch how low you go as the rims do tend to stick out a lot and look like their gonna get very close to the arches once lowered (Because of the offset on the wheels).
badnova
18-05-04, 04:29 PM
i know :D
i grinded the lip down and then pushed the side out abit to make it fit
i have had it with out spring in to see so have tried it
Christ.. wondered why this topic was getting so long...
I have seen a nova done like that, howver he used a panel beater to shape the arches. Then again he did give up after doing that.. lol

18-05-04, 09:22 PM
my quad coverson bonnet is now on
looks well good if i do say so myself
what i did notice is that the bonnet fits better on a mk1 bonnet rather than a mk2
i thought the only difference between the 2 bonnets was the mk 2 had a badge?
badnova
18-05-04, 09:37 PM
i think on a mk2,just below the badge is a bulge if ya know what i mean
in the middle of the bonnet
badnova
18-05-04, 09:41 PM
i dont think it has it on a mk1
but i might be wrong
badnova
18-05-04, 09:43 PM
sorry epo
your right
it is just the badge
badnova
18-05-04, 09:57 PM
what also fit better is the light and the grill on a mk1 i think cos on a mk2 it is quite tight
dont know how any one else got on with it
5_door owner
18-05-04, 10:31 PM
u got any pics of ya bonnet m8 :+:

p.s get ya rims chromed :D :D :D
badnova
18-05-04, 10:36 PM
it needed some mods to fit correct
badnova
18-05-04, 10:37 PM

badnova
18-05-04, 10:52 PM
how much do you think it will cost to get the wheels chromed
how much do you think it will cost to get the wheels chromed
More than it'll be worth keeping them for - personally I'd sell the Momo and get some used 15" or 16" alloys that are a better fit - Look in breakers yards for some 16" off something like a 4 stud MK4 Astra or even some 15" off any Calibra / Cavalier / Astra etc etc.
It'll handle better, make the bearings last longer and reduse the chances of wheel to arch contact.
Just my 2p's worth though - take it or leave it.....
badnova
19-05-04, 04:57 PM

My thoughts are that one of the main charcteristics of the Nova are the square arches and you've done away with this. It will no doubt be an individual car and I hope it works out for you.
Lets hopw you keyed and preped the surface well. Also, lets hope you got rid of any rust under the filler. The last thing you want is for a couple of rust spots to appear after all that hard work.
Good luck with it all, look forward to seeing it in the flesh.
Jim

Try and avoid spraying the car a dark colour - dark colours (Dark blues / green / purple / red / black) will show up uneven areas of the bodywork - whereas light colours (white, silver, yellow) will hide them more.

I'll second that :!:
Had mine resprayed mettalic black over a month back now & you can very slightly see where the door locks were and the fiberglass line around the bonnet vent.
Still looks mint though, you have to know its there to see it if ya know what i mean,
Cars looking good dude!

Sorry for double post,
Is that the supernovas style panel?
Ive had the problem with mine where its cracked my paintwork from ever so slightly moving due to the weather. Theres like a hair line crack down either side.
Make sure its secured down well. The crack is where the ends start to go up the side of the tailgate and is filled/smoothed in. Gutted :(

talking to a sprayer last night and he says that the car on that car is really hard to do right yourself and you need lots of experiance to do it right :( :(
so im not sure if i will
can you still get the paint code though might get a pro to spray it

Seen this type of paint on a pug 106 round my way,if i remember right to do it you need to first spray the car in a base paint,EG black then you aply your other colors and use say a plastic bag or a rag to give it the marble efect by dabing it on the wet pait, then you need to cover it in lot of layers of lacker to get it smooth,if that makes sense..
