hi i have a 1.4 sri and im thinking of getting a new engine.....
would really like a 16xe (1.6 16v) but think it would be cheaper and easier if i just upgraded to a 16se (1.6 gsi 8v)...
what changes are involved in the two?
if i chage to a gsi do i need to change the wiring?
and the same question for the 16v?

cheers

if u get the c16se (multec) engine then u can use the sri loom just changin the ecu, makin sure they are both dis or non dis, if u catch my drift, im not sure on the valver...

You need to use the loom for the corsa engine, and it may need extending so you can get it inside the cabin. It's cheaper to put a 16SE in, but you have more potential with the 16XE engine.
typically engines go for ?300 ish, you want the C16XE, it has an airflow meter not a MAP sensor as you have no immobiler problems then. Witha mantzel power box or simialr you'll just to around 125BHP which is pretty healthy, or put throttle bodies straight on and see about 150 with a decent exhaust.

but how much would it cost to get it fitted? and do i need to strengthen the chasis for the extra weight?
thought i could get a gsi as it would go striaght in and would be less hasle?

good luck even FINDING a C16XE let alone getting one for ?300 quid

you'll prolly be looking at ?400+ if u can find one

i was being quoted 600+ from scrap yards for X16XEL's

finally found a c16xe locally with 4branch and recent service at vaux for ?430

You don't need any weldinh done less your off rallying. There isn't much weight in it bewteen the mini XE's and the 8v's. The 16v has much more potential, and will be potentially low milage too, just be sure to put a new cambelt and rollers on if you get one.

Aragorn, scrap yards are not the best places to get engines form as they are steep, just have to look at all the forum boards to find one, they come up.

as for welding the bay. its down to choice. some do it for tuned 1300s, some don't for 2.0 16v. personally i'd say yes. do it anyway.

maybe get an e16se from a gte or gsi, then get a 16v head later on. if 'CP' could do it with a 1400 then I'm sure it can be done to a 1600.

Sure you can, just a piston and rod swap. then the loom, ecu etc..... surely it's easier to get a 26v straight off less you intend to run it on TB@s and managment.
