i going to get a new engine in the next few weeks, but i cant decide what to go for. Im liking the idea of a 2lt 8v but not sure if its worth it performance wise. Not bother price wise as im doing my slef on the cheap just want anyones opinion on the matter

id say if your gettin a 2.0 8v then t45 it or if not just go for a valver

(or a 7.5l fully blown V8     )

well its going to be carbed no matter what engine it is, i love the sound of them :D, I just fancied something different from the 16v an wondered if its worth it. Its going to be tuned to the same extent as my 1400.

With the cost of the engine and mildy tuning an 8v you can buy the 16v and have a better figure to start with.

But im biased, i have never got on with the 2.0l 8v Nova's.

Gaz has posted a similar post in Technical. I agree with Ben. If you going to put the weight of a 2.0 in the front, you might aswell get a 2.0 16v.

Why should it matter if the police cant tell that its a 2.0? I hope you've told your Insurance company what size engine is in the car?

its not worth it mate. You have a bad accident and you will have your ass sued and insurance will leave you to sort out the ?000 payouts maybe more

Was just about to say the exact same thing. Novaboy20, it's not clever cheating the Insurance company. It's things like this that give modifiers a bad name.

how much power would T45s add to the 115 and 130 8v's compared to putting them on the 16v?

arhhh what is it with peeps and fully comp ins... if he smashed it it's tough shit.. no point claiming for a ?700 nova.... they will just get the ?700 and more back over the next couple of years

where does jbobo say anything about fully comp insurance? I think what jbobo was saying is that the guy should have it insured with all mods declared. If he crashes it to the point where it's a right off, the Insurance company probably wont pay out when they find hes been driving a 2.0 instead of what its been declared as.

Back to the topic, i would say go for the 16v aswell. With the time/effort/money theres not to much in it. Go the whole hog and your already half way there with 156bhp

Anyway what sort of power gains would i be looking at with t45s, cam/cams, ported/polished head on both of the engines?

Nath

yeah ste when did i say anything about fully comp? anyway i think save up for the 16v.

you said claim... you can';t claim for your own car unless your fully comp

ive ran both engines. Both modded too.
My 2L 8V was the cav 130 engine. with polished and ported head/twin 45s
Definatly wasnt slow. Perhaps out the bottom end maybe a tad more torque. But once into the midrange thats valver land!

Altho my old 2l 8v would be no match for my current 16valve.
id say if your gonna spend and mod. might as well go 16valve .
value for money really. cant beat it really. 300ish nicker gets u a valver. not much more for all the other bits. and you have 155bhp on tap. then the games can begin.

hmmm it is tempting now, ive just found a cav for ?75, i mean i can even get my money back on that from scrappy it an selling of random bits.

I have a 2L 8V Nova and to be honest you can't go to wrong with them if your after a cheap conversion. Mine cost me no more than about ?100 all in and the engines are pretty much bullet proof. The engine has done over 140k miles but still starts first time doesn't smoke etc... I rag the tits off of it every day with out fail and it still doesn't miss a beat.

i would have love to have done the 16v conversion but money problems at the time stoped me. my 8v is very quick now and will eat a standard 16v for breakfast. the only thing is as was said before it costs a lot of money to get them that way. if you can afford the 16v engine then do it. but if not then the 8v is a very strong and reliable engine. but not that quick from standard.
