For the flex,
Drill a small hole at the bottom ( the bit that meets the rear bumper ) and squirt some expanding foam up there and then block the hole up. Careful though cuz if you get the foam on your hands its a ball ache to get off.
Once set the foam is rock hard and dont flex at all.

just to add to gazza's reply just becarefull how much u put in as this stuff expands like a bastard and u dont want it to push the pannel out

Definently, check how much it starts to expand before you wack some more in.LOL

are there any other ways of smoothing the boot panel?
yes get a metal plate welded in there then filler around it.

yeh they seem gud at the time but wen u get it u think wot a waste of 50 quid.altho the fact that theres less filler involved is an advantage probably not as hard as weldin a plate in either.
I seen a few proper flush tailgates go on Ebay for like ?30, just need the final filler smoothing and then spraying.
a while ago willf\ben were sellin a flush boot 4 ?35
i was tempted but its pickin it up

really wanna know the easy and best ways to flush a tailgate........please!!
lol oh yeah the main topic of this.. lol... well as mentioned before the easiest way would be get a bodyshop to do it  .... those flush boot panels are probably easiest, welding in a plate would be harder... but it depends on your welding skills i guess.
If your confident enough and have a spare tailgate you might aswell give it a go

how du filler over the weld? du hav to grind it?
how du filler over the weld? du hav to grind it?
You weld it in then smooth the welds(grind) until they are flat and then just wack some filler in.
