I have just bought a nova. It was built primarely for autotesting. It is fitted with a 16sv engine, I fitted a 32/34DMTL Weber on it but the power seems very flat at the top of the revs above about 5k (I think, no rev counter). I have been told that the head on the engine is no good (square port). What heads can I fit to the engine that have round ports or are just better heads. Does anyone have and heads for sale.

Cheers

late nova gsi's have round ports on the 'head. just go lookin round freeads, scrappies etc.. 1.6 sv is just a basic cav/ astra lump i think; has about 80bhp; 20 odd less than nova gte/gsi.

I am very ineterested in the head, How much are you looking and could you post it over to me. I will pay all postage costs.

quick question - If the head now has round ports, what inlet manifold do i need to run with round ports, the one I have is a square port with the weber attached.

Many Thanks

I don't mind paying the postage, we have trouble over here getting bits like that, just not the number of cars over here like you guys have over in England. How much do you want for head?

Thats sounds good to me, If you could check it fo me and let me know.

Did any of the smaller engines come with inlet manifolds with round ports?
I think I really need the weber for the low down pulling power so I can do a bit of autotesting. I have heard of a guy who cut the injection manifold and welded it to the carb manifold. Sounds like a plan.

Sorry for the constant questions, I am new to this nova game, I have been a Mini man for years have now come over to the dark side. All I need, is to use the force. Managed to get a head of a 1400 corsa, round port. The head is a c14se.

Will this head do the job, at a rough measure the valves are 37/30. All I need now is a inlet manifold to suit.

id *imagine* you would raise the CR too much with a 1.4 head

i thought of doing this coz i had a c14se head spare, but was thinking it might have too much compression causing, detenation! how come the 1.2 - 1.4 is within limits then have they similar combustion chamber sizes?
i looked at the 2 (1.4 & 1.6) and the are very similar in size although i know the bore is slightly diffrent. i know the c16se is better skimmed than messing about with the c14se, but i just needed to put a spare head on while i send it off to BILL...

u will have a cr of around 11.4 using a 1400se on a 1600se.

Use 97/98ron fuel and might get away with it.

yeah I've seen a few nova grassers with both big and small block engines that have similar things done.

as for too high a CR, maybe remove some material from the chamber roof with a mill or drill? although if you don't know how much to take off you could reck it. I wouldn't risk it without some advice first.
