Firstly get a 16v and not a 8v.
But it ain't gonna reach 200bhp, only way to do that is with a C20LET and big turbo.

your gonna need to spend ???????????????? to get 200bhp from an 8v

however a 16v with twincarbs should be 180ish, add headwork or some cams and im sure you'll reach 200

nearly all 2.0 8v are 115bhp as standard. (C20NE i think the code is)

only Cav' Sri 130 and a couple other special models of Vaux were 130bhp 8v's.

Saying that, Xibit has a 1.8 8v which is basically the same apart form 200cc less and he has it pushing 150-160bhp i think.

yer it IS possible but what im saying is by the time uve spend enough money to get it even to 155bhp u'd be easier having simply baught the 16v engine in the first place

A turbo system can be rigged up for around ?1200 and running 8-9psi will give you about 190 bhp.

I have all the details if your interested. I know you said without turbo but there isn't really another way,

Do as you would to a 1.6 8V:

Get a Blydenstein B+ head, good for plenty of BHP, fit a Piper 285 or Kent AST2 cam, add twin webers and a 4-branch with system.

Do all this and you should get a 50% increase in power (not far off 200bhp), but more importantly, bags of torque all with reliability.

As it is a 2.0 8v, it will be strong enough to pull cleanly with a piper 300, and that would make over 200bhp.

bollocks!!!!!! its expensive but can be done for about 3-5 grand depending on how heap you get the parts.

dont bother with a laggy turbo. waste of time. get the compression up a little and run a vernier pully so you can get the timing set up right. then get the head fully ported polished and gas flowed. (or get the blynstein B+ head) get a kent ast 16 rally cam (i think thats what its called but and decent cam will do.) replace the hydraulic lifters with solid ones for more lift. get some heavy valve springs so you can rev it higher. use a good set of twin 48 webbers. loads on ebay. facet red top fuel pump. lighten and ballence the bottom end (crank rods pistons and flywheel) get a good oil pump while the bottom end is apart. arp rod bolts are a must. also have the flywheel doweled so you wont loose it at high revs. if your really keen a good set of rods and pistons are a good idea but they are mega bucks.

all that will allow you rev the thing to abut 8 grand and will give you about 200 bhp. i think ive heard that they have had over 230 bhp with a normally asperated 2.1 8v but its over 10.000 worth of work

i kinda like and agree with what mc says; sounds a good gig... 8 valve is gonna be cheaper to buy; recondition; (b+ will cost ?480 on 8v instead of ?600+ on 16v) and ya get the low end grunt; which for the road i think is where ya want it. apparently 180bhp in an 8 valve feels quicker than the same power out of a 16v.. what i read.
