the plan is to wet and dry most of the arch down, use a little filler to smooth the lip out, sand that smooth, primer it then smooth that, then spray.
its not gunna be amazin but it will hold for a couple of months til i can get a good job done.
its only temporary!
have you done urs?, what did u do?any help would be fantastic!
cheers

Ive done mine! the best thing to do is to basically get rid of all the rust you can see. The best thing i used was a wire bristled disc for an angle grinder and it takes just minute to get all the loose stuff off and done to somesort of good metal. Then you have got to put some kind of rust preventer on them. The best thing i used was Kurust from halfords. Or maybe something better i dont know its what you can find. Then just sand it down then re-apply the rust proofer if needed. Then after all that, if you have any holes which are there use some fibreglass filler. And the get it sanded down to a good finish. then if you think it is necessary use some body filler on top for an even better finish. Then sand it again until you are satisfied with it. then just start the basic body preparation with the primer, and use plenty of wet and dry to get a damn good surface! then it should be ready for painting. This is what i did anyway and it looks great! if anyone notices i missed owt then please say!

it took me a couple of days, Ive not sprayed it yet because im having the whole car sprayed and have just been preparing it all. but priming it is a piece of p*ss! if you are spraying it yourself its pretty easy too, just make sure you use wet and dry to a good extent and dont rush it! also it helps just to put some laquer on when its all dried but take it steady with that stuff too cos if you put too much on in one go it can look a bit bodgy!, depending if your car is metallic if not you dont need it! if there is some runs in it, get some very fine wet and dry paper and just rub the run out and give it another bit of paint if you feel brave! hope this is of some use to you! :)
well ive just finished this. well i had to get the replacment panel and then angle grind the old arch off and weld the new one on but!!! make sure u trim down the replacment panel. once its on u will need some filler to smooth it in. flat it down with rough paper then filler again then start to use finer paper. leave that for a day or so then get some stopper and put that on the same as filler. flat that down with fine paper and add another layer of stopper on top and flat that down again so its smooth.
once its flat u can then add a layer of primer and flat that down with fine paper. then u can start to prep it with primer and the spray it.
pic of the arch once it had the stopper on it.

done a good job there mate! mines not as good, just sanded it down and filled it. its a little shabby in places but its only for a month or so then its off to the bodyshop. its not actually that difficult. just lots of time and effort. been workin on mine since bout 10, just started to rain too so i moved it into the garage. currently ready for a coat of primer! then the dreaded paint when it arrives!
did you paint the whole panel or just the bit you had showed in the picture?was it hard to get it to blend in?
any tips would be great!
cheers
is it hard to weld on those replacement arch panels?
nahh easy to weld just spot weld it all the way across, ive sprayed the whole car m8 well up to the bottom of the windows both sides. and front and back bumpers. im pleased with it. i think im gonna do my other arch now lol cuz its started to go. that means the whole panel has to be sprayed again
as for blending in that took me feckin ages doing it all by hand with 800 flatting paper. never use a sander on it do it by hand!

yes/no?
Does that include painting as well? seems like a pretty good price to me

yeah thats painting and everything...
u think that sounds reasonable??
do u think there would b any chance of the rust coming thriugh again? :x
very good price m8 it cost me about ?50 in parts so ?100 for labour isnt bad at all!with the new arches it shouldnt rot through for a long long time.

?150 just for painting alone i'd say was pretty reasonable :)
It depends what they're going to do though, for that price i doubt they'll replace the arches, just repair whats there so there is a chance that rust will re-appear later on down the line.

I got an arche from a parts shop (in Sheffield) for ?12 and its made out of aluminium, it fits perfect see photos. All i did was grind all the rust off the arche and cover it in sealent to stop further rust. Then stick the template in place (with bonder and sealant) then blend it in, then rub down and smooth. So for about ?20 inc paint etc my arch looks and feels like new.
