View Full Version : camshafts in a 2.0 16v xe engine

has anyone with a 2.0 16v had uprated camshafts fitted ? ie courtenay high torque, pier cams or something like that.
my cams need replacing and i need some feedback if there is anything to steer clear of ? i have been told by one person that they are a waste of time and to stick with standard.
help :-/

One of the best things to do is get a pair of vernier pulleys, and have a specialist tuner like SBD adjust the overlap between inlet and exhaust. Just this alone can increase performance. You cant do that with 8 valve lumps. Some sort of high torque cam would probably be best (concentratig on duration rather than lift), as there isnt much clearence between the valves and pistons for a really high lift cam.

Mc, i spoke to sbd and they said forget getting piper cams etc, the best ones to get are there own (funnily enough) but with theres you have to get the pistons pitted, because the valves open so much. they reckon when this is done i would be looking at 20-30 bhp increase !!!!
but the price tag is around a grand !
what do ya reckon ?

If you can afford it, go for it. If you cant, like I said b4 dont go fo a high lift cam coz of the clearance, and u also loose valuable torque below 4000rpm, but either a schrick or a courtenay cam that has extended duration, and slight increase in lift to give a more balanced distribution of torque and power accross the band.

do sbd sell complete 2.0 16v engines which have been built by themselves running 48mm throttle bodies?

If Beesty's got em i wouldn't bother. He seems to have picked up a 30bhp power loss LOL
