will a 1.4i engine be a straight swap for my 1.2?

no ule need to use the ecu and the loom off the 1.4i. plus an eleccy fuel pump, not worth the hassle, unless u have it all already, and have the know how, obviosly not if ur askin here!

its not loads of grief but changin from a 1.2 carbed (55bhp) to a 1.4i (60bhp) isnt really worth it eh...

is it a multipoint injection setup or single point? i.e does it have a bin lid type thing on the top of the engine or not

I agree with the last idea. Just use the block. All of the other components are fine from your engine, and the combination should give raised compression with decent flow. It will be asy as there are no changes in wiring or fuel pipes. You would just need a re-jet at your local garage.

tas sone said, the 1.4spi engine ur after is only 5bhp more. It isn't worth doing.

Just by putting a cam, sports exhaust and air filter on your 1.2 carb you would see 60-65bhp.

the spi is a fairly crap engine in the vauxhall range.

the sri is much better.

Just to make it clear, it is the head and injection unit that are poor on the 1.4spi, the block is fine and is the same as used in the SR and SRi. It's the only useable part.

I also want to point out that although the horsepower figures are not that much greater than the 1.2, the 1.4i torque is better, aided by the restrictive intake, and it will be a noticeable improvement. It all depends on how easy you?ll find the transplant. If it is a major job for you then I?d leave it. The best scenario would be to just use the 1.4 block with your head and intake.
