View Full Version : Which Head?
Ok, I have finally got a deal for a set of T40's. I have just one thing left to decide, and that is which head to use?
I can get either a 1.2 inlet or a 1.4 inlet for the t40's, so should i stick with my modded 1.4 head, or swap for a 1.2 head? Which would see more power gains etc?
My mate will donate me his old 1.2 head for free, so i could easily sell my head for a bit of money, to put towards having them set up properly. Any ideas/suggeustions.
Cheers Paul

when u say modded 1.4 head, what mods has it?
e.g. if its B+ blydenstein then keep it.
ported gas flowed polished and skimmed.

is it meant to or has it given any more power?
Any work done to inlets?
have the valves been cleaned aswell?
may be worth keeping 1400 head, but if u B+ (or even do the same as on ur 1400 head) the 1200 u would see more power between the two.
on mine i went for a tinkered with 1.4sri head, have got some t40's on a 13 manifold on a shelf in my garage
so as another option you can use 1.4sri head with the 1.3 T40's manifold and open up the posts to match

its a 1.4 sr head he's on about, which is totally different to sri. smaller valves etc.

obviusly the sri head would be better if u can get hold of 1, c14se, if u cant stick with ur ported etc 14sr head

Was just giving him another option to try would be a bit more work but probably worth it :D
Use the 1.2 head over you modded 1.4 head. It is will be better standard than a 1.4 SR head modded.

the sri head is unsuitable for a carb'd car. its ports are different and other stuff like head gasket will be different.

you can make the 1.3sr inlet manifold fit the sri head with a bit of port work.
The inlet manifold ports are round and the head ones oval shaped so you can match them up.
i think when i did mine i used the sri head gasket and it all went togeather fine.

or u just buy a 1600 gte inlet manifold and it matches the sri head perfectly :P

would that allow a carb sit on it as the gte's were injected?
if it does i could have saved meself load of time!

no, a carb won't sit on a MPi manifold at all. not even an spi manifold either.
Best bet is to get a 1.2 head and get it B+.
If u don't want to spend that much then just stick with ur 1400 head as a standard 1.2 head won't be any better if u modded the 1400 head slightly.

he means 1600 GTE inlet manifold for T40s ;)
