View Full Version : Classes for RB vs NL @ pod on 23rd of may????

What classes are we going to run at this thing then or is it just going to be a free for all?

Personally i would like to see:
N/A up to 1700 8v
N/A up to 1700 16v

N/A up to 2100 8v
N/A up to 2100 16v

Turbo upto 1700
Turbo upto 2100

And anything that doesnt fit into that would then fall into:
Other
as would anything that isnt road legal for any reason (ie no MOT or running non road legal tyres etc)

What are other peoples views?

What class for nitrous cars, in the turbo or in the N/A, seems to me like in with the turbos would be a lot fairer.

PS

we need to keep the number of classes fairly small or we will end up with only 1 car in lots of classes etc, i know it doesnt seem fair if a 1800 1.8 turbo is racing a 2.0 16v turbo, but thats the nature of any class based racing, someone always ends up against competition that doesnt seem fair.

can we have a 1200 cat 8)

One thing you might want to mention chip is that there are no prizes being handed out for the fastest car in the class, it's purely to get a good race between similar cars.

Classes seem fine, although might want to consider a class up to 1400 as it wouldnt be much of a match having a 1.0 up agaisnt a tuned 1650cc.

i wouldnt mind doing it if there were other people of the same sort of class

Chip_RB
13-04-04, 10:48 AM
trouble is with having a 1400cc category is it would put CP in it, when really he SHOULD be racing against 1600cc cars cause he will still win :D

The only prize is a point for your respective website.

Maybe we should split the 8v class down a little further, but not the 16v as there are lots of different size 8v motors but only 1400 and 1600cc for the 16v class?

So 8v up to 1450cc and then up to 1700cc?

up to 1500cc 8v N/A (including 1.5 td! :))

putting sr's in with GSI's is pointless.

A. becasue it will manily be Sr's and GTE/GSI's there so there will be enough of those cars to have them in seperate classes.

i think sum sr's will put the 5hitters under some gte/gsi's.

i think it would be a good idea to seperate the lower engine sizes into more groups otherwise there are going to be 1200 against 1600 16V on throttle bodies. Plus i dont want a certian some body in my class with a 1400 16V :D

Phil, at least he is on your side, imagine how the small block boys on RB feel knowing that they dont stand a bloody chance!

Whos that then

I've never done a 1/4 mile before. I'd have to add RAC card to the list of what you need.

Is this a 'Show Standard' jobbie or can I turn up in a Rusty GSi who's chassis has more plates a than a wedding caterers?

If I come it'll just be for the excuse of hammering the balls out of my car because at this rate my 1.6 8v project will never be finished, let alone in time for this event

Dan

tbh if you want to reduce the amount of categories then the initial list is about spot on, 6 main categories and then the 'other' one. with all times listed peeps can then take their own class from it to compare etc. as said no prizes or sod all so wont make any difference

Dpnova
14-04-04, 10:42 PM
thats a good idea just having an other class, or just run the classes chip said and compare times after

Chip_RB
15-04-04, 12:36 AM
We'll publish a list afterwards on both sites with all the times in order with fastest at the top, with a clear marker showing NL or RB, and in brackets after the winner of each class we will put a class winner tag of some sort.

We wont actually quote an official winner between the two sites, but everyone can draw their own conclusions of what they think the most impressive cars were.

It will be good practiice for those people going to PV a little later in the year.

This car wouldn't happen to have been developed by a certain Derbyshire tuners would it?

How about we just pitch similar sized engines with each other.

At the end we compile a list and have a note saying what engine

Eg

Name: Chip
1/4mile time: **.***
Car: 2.0 16v Nova with NOS

Try and get the times in order aswell :)

Jim

P.S. Chip, a few of our big block peeps will not be running as there cars aren't finished yet. Perhaps have a rematch later on in the year?

Chip_RB
15-04-04, 09:23 AM
Yeah cool, we'll worry mainly about just getting one big list together then.

The rematch idea sounds like a good one, maybe right at the end of summer, either end of august or beginning of september?

Hopefully by then i should have the mid engined one back on the road on its temporary engine and running about 350bhp or so.

why not organise in a different way.

At york this weekend there was a mini vs beetle shooutout.

they had a few qualifying rounds where you ran against anything to set your fastest time then fastest times were compared and they tried to match cars from each team with similar times against each other.

Winner of these matched races collects 1 point for their respective team.

Jim
15-04-04, 04:08 PM
:o Fenix? What are you doing on here? LOL, long time no see :)

Sounds like a good idea. Need to find someone to co-ordinate it though. Plus at Santa Pod, it can be a bit tricky trying to get cars to line up with each other. Suppose if we talk to the guys at Santa Pod we might be able to get someone near the start to organise the cars.

Trouble with that is it leads people to just deliberately go slower in the first place in order to win their tie.

Better just keeping it straightforward i reckon.

once all the times are in, just calculate an average time for all the novaload cars and for all the rb cars. Which ever site has the lowest average time is clearly the best!

Nice idea, but the problem with that is it would mean that the winner would simply be determined by which site had the least number of members with small engined novas who were prepared to get out there and give it a go.
We WANT all the people with 1.2's etc to join in the fun, but your way if they did it would bring the average down.

Chip

Its a possibility but tbh it'd be a pretty pointless day out if you were only prepared to push it on one run during the whole day just to scalp a 1.4 in your 2l16v.

PS. Yes Jim i'm back. Going to york in the Calibra motivated me to get my arse in gear and valver the saloon. Cars stripped now, probably picking an engine up this weekend and getting my nitrous kit back off the mate i lent it to. PPS wtf is John Hilton doing with an Evo VII

you could let everyone run and say list the fastest cars running 1.2, 2.0 etc

Chip_RB
16-04-04, 11:18 PM
We will certainly be publishing all results, and everyone is VERY welcome, the more novas there the better, no matter what engine

cough lol

Is this a 'Show Standard' jobbie or can I turn up in a Rusty GSi who's chassis has more plates a than a wedding caterers?

I think the original idea by chiprb is the best and simplest way, no matter what happens, people will interpret the results to suit their point of view

as we are talking about classes, how many races are going to be in per class?

i mean

on this site we could have 5 cars with a 1.6 16v on TBs, and on RB there could be 3 cars with the same engine, all of which are puttin out different bhps!

so will all this race if they want to?

Chip_RB
18-04-04, 10:16 PM
Everyone races as many times as they can get runs in, then each site submits its single best timing slip per class to win the point, so as many of you as you want can run, in the case of some classes there will be loads of cars from one site and few or none from the other

Tazzy
18-04-04, 11:11 PM
riight!!! :? i think i understand that! lol

ill just turn up and watch, and maybe have my car as a back up incase someone blows a gasket or summit! lol

Well might as well show my face though till the valver is in most ppl will whip my gis as it is standard..saying that though i did do a 16.8 at the pod

Remember lads, this is all based on TIMED RUNS. Don't panic if you line up against a 2.0 turbo in your 1.2 as your time will be what counts, not who crosses the line first. I think I'm right in saying that we will try and get similar cars racing together, but it can be a little tricky doing this at Santa Pod.

Should be a good day, I'll be there, Nova or no Nova.

ah well, if thats the case, line me up against that supercharged 3.0 V6 then...

if anyone has one of course! :D
