i was wondering how easy it would be to change from a 1.2 single point injection engine to a 1.4 single point injection engine (not 1.4 sri). It seems like the exhaust, fuel tank, pump, wiring e.t.c would all be the same. So could i just pull the 1.2 out and do a straight swap, and then just unplug the 1.2 ecu and put the 1.4 one in without changing any wiring?.

also are these 1.4 engines quite rare?, and anyone know the bhp difference?

1.4 spi isn't that rare afaik, found in any late Mk2 1.4s (non-SRi ones obviously). I think the same engine also appeared in corsas?

1.2i = 50bhp
1.4SPi = 60bhp

...so there's not that much difference in power.

if your going to the hassle of swapping the engine i would reccommend getting a 1.4 sr camshaft and an 1.4 SRi manifold (with lambda probe) and GTE downpipe and system

this should give u about 70bhp which is similar to an SR and much more lively than the standard 60bhp

and yes all u will need is the 1400 ecu and the 1400 engine - wiring loom is all identical - just make sure u use the TBI unit from the 1400 as the injector is bigger

Sorry to intrude, but will a 1.2i 8v fuel tank and the lines be good enough for my X16XE conversion? I would change the pump for either a external Corsa one or a internal GSi 8v one.

Would this work ok?

when u said TBI unit, is that what u call the injector housing that looks a lot like a carb???

thanks

TBI = Throttle Body Injection - which is the thing that looks a lot like a carb ;)

and the 1200 tank is fine just get a in tank pump from a corsa gsi and chop the little fin off the back of it so it fits

the 1.0 and 1.2i have the same power (cat ;) )

then 1.2 carb 55
1.2 NV carb 53

Cool, what about the fuel lines? Are they thick enough for the X16XE being that its a 1.2i 8v?
