What would be the best gearbox to use with my 1300? The standard F10, or would a F13 CR box fit?

I prefer acceleration over top end speed, the engine should be pushing 90bhp when built..

1.3 sr F10 CR got better raios for acceleration hasn't it 4.18:1 , F13 CR 3.74:1
and 3.94 on 1.4 sr's

Yers, unless you can track down that bedford astra van gearbox with a high final drive, but dunno if the flywheels would match up?

vauxhall have 2 diffent set of gear cluster ratios and various final drives

the F number of the box is irrellevant

u get WR and CR boxes in both F10 and F13

for accelleration u want a CR box, however most vaux CR boxes have long final drive ratios meaning they are tamed down a bit

so if u take a GTE F13CR u'll find it has a 3.74 FD... fitting a 3.94 FD from a 1.2 or 1.4 or better still a 4.18FD from a 1300SR or 1300 astra will give u even better accelleration and hence a lower top end

i have modified a spreadsheet that cambridge put together a while back to make it much easier to use... its hosted here:

load that into excel and you can compare boxes - the WR and CR options are tabs at the bottom - u input the red fields to match your engine and also the last RPM field if your rev limit is higher than 6800 - that way u can fiddle with ratios and work out which box you'd like the best :)
