Right.. I Was just wondering on what people thought would be a sutiable engine to put in my car too:

- Keep insurance low, as im only 18
- Be pretty economica, as ive got to go to work in it
- But still have abit of poke about it

I was thinking maybe a 1.4sri, but i think the insurance may be abit steep, any suggestions would be much appreicated

not as standard; its just that the 16v has more tuning potential..

Get a 1.2 and run that for a couple of years. What you save in Insurance now will allow you to modify the car or get something better when your 21. I know 21 isn't necessarily a recognised age when it comes to Insurance, but you'll have built up your no claims and when it's your 21st ask for money so you can buy a car or modify the existing one if you wish.

You may stick with a 1.2 Merit mate.

Jim

yes it is insurance goes down shit loads between 20 and 21

i should know having just turned 21 and getting quotes under ?200 to renew my 1.2 LOL

the stop gaps are

17 expensive

19 bit cheaper

21 lots cheaper

25 old man cheap

your only 18 dude jims advice is sound i drove a 1.2 from 17-19 and enjoyed myself i also drove a 1.0 micra and other "slow" cars who cares its sumthing u can drive.

then i upgraded at 19 ant had a 1.4 for my car sorted and then brought a gsi so ive done the lot

now at 21 im back to a 1.2 and dont care they are not that slow and will happily sit at 100mph and thats with only 4 gears........

good luck wotever you decide.

p.s i drive my 1.2 75 miles a day without bother ;)

my insurance never seems to go down, but then that could be because I keep getting faster and more powerful cars each time!! doh!

I'm 25 now and the insurance isn't "old man cheap" yet, hopefully it will be in a month or so when I have to renew and I have 5 years no claims instead of 4, time will tell.
