DIY Lowering

is it difficult to lower the car yourself?? :roll:
im planning on installing 40mm lowering springs, wonderin if i hav 2 put it in a garage and pay some guy a ridiculous amount of money for what i could do myself..

its a pretty easy job, a few hours with a haynes manual if you've not done it before. The rears are easy, basically you just jack the car up and swap the springs, the fronts are a little harder as you'll have to actually take the shock out to get the spring off it.

do i need tools to compress the springs so that i can remove them?? :roll:
i dont wanna have a spring bounce in2 my eye :lol:

halfords sell the spring compressures 4 about ?20
its a 2hours job tops
4bolts a front shock
1each side on the rears
on the fronts u'll need 2 19mm's tho

if you don't want to buy spring compressors, its possible to use G-Clamps instead.... altho i wouldn't really reccomend this, especially if you've not done it before.

...You could always do the old trick of buying them from halfords, keep the packet intact, then after using them repackage them and take them back ("Sorry mate, i bought the wrong size!") :lol:

some car accessory shops let you hire them for a couple of quid, my local one said they would until i borrowed a mates for free

don't pay ?20. you can get a set for ?10 in most automotive tool stockists.
