I've got an old GTE rear beam I want to use to stick discs on the back of my GSi. And before anyone points it out, yes I'll be fitting an adjustable bias valve.

1. Apart from astra GTE, what other non ABS cars did the same discs +calipers come on?

2. Does anyone have any idea what model golf the rear disc setup often seen on rally novas comes from, and before I try and fit them is there any good books/websites with info on this conversion?

3. Do any of these fit under the standard 14inch 3 spoke alloys? If not what about 15inch vaux wheels? (I take it the 14inch astra alloys are ok lol)

cheers

the cav sri and gsi had them as far as i know (the 4x4 was different)

also newer astra mk3's and i guess vectras too but they'll be 5 stud more than likely

i'd like to know more about the golf setup as it sounds much better :)

yeah there must be a reason why its commonly used. good thing is the stud pattern is the same but I wonder how the bearings cope as they're designed for a different offset probably fine just don't last as long. might ask a golf nut I know which cars they came on, get a beam and handbrake cable and go from there.

golf calipers and disc setup is smaller so more light weigt. cav sri had the rerar discs too. later astras have different typr rear brakes with a complete integral hub wheras earlier like your s and the one im doing hav cheaper replaceable bearings which is a bonus!

what bias valve are you gonna use.

im just gonna source different vavle restrictors from saloonand vans etc and geive all a go as everyone seems unsure as what works best to prevent rear lockup

I've heard you need 3mm spacers on the rear when using Golf setup

dunno what make yet. but it'll be the turn knob style not the lever type. I'm gonna play about with different proportioning valves etc, remove the diagnal split on the master cylinder and blank one off, running one pipe through the car with the t-piece mounted inside. My local MOT garage is only a mile away up country roads so I can pop back and forth during the day checking the difference on the rolling road lol

do any of you know which golf rear discs are used?

cheers

They are golf Mk1 calipers and the golfs run ET 39or45 so not much difference. You could always try and put nova bearing on the golf parts. If you want the calpiers try German Swedish and french.
