Don't jump on the bandwagon

Standard Valver nova and a standard 4x4 Escos would be a close thing..

According to that site that lists the various 1/4 mile times a standard Escos does a 14.9.. there only 210 odd hp remember... and a lot heavier with power loss through 4x4... I seem to remember people with valvers running 15ish sec 1/4 on here..

A modified one is a completely different story though.. You only need to do a few things to get them over 300hp - Would leave a valver nova well behind.

well its been RR at 171bhp, the bloke off of mig i bought it from saiid the previous owner worked for porshe an had the whole engine redun, bigger valves, posibly supershipped as it revs higher than the dash, got full system, powercap, not that they count for that much, i think its more internal work that gives it the power........... possibly been borred out? not sure realy!

Found On Roadside. Dead. LOL

My valver with 178bhp kept up with standard-ish cossie (saf and escy) on a dual carriageway in Oldham but they both left me for dead around the roundabout. Back on the carriageway I caught them up. They both reckoned to have 250BHP but both were 4wd. Respect to them though, because without them developing the Sierra RS Cosworth back in 1984 there'd be no impreza wrx/evo mitsi's or lancia integrale's and the world would be a sh1tt1er place!

I love cossies almost as much as I love golfs... and I love golfs almost as much as i love nova's

grrrr! cossies are shit as standard! why the fuck everyone thinks of em as supercars is beyond me, 15sec 1/4 is nought special

and to the guy who says he 'has bikes' in his saph, you should really move up from racing 125's by now, try it on with a gsx1000r or a 'busa and get your ass handed to ya

i thought the 205 block woz stronger than the 200 one, thats why ford used it for the 4x4

ford used the 200 block in the 4x4! the 205 was used in the 3 door and 2wheel drive saffs,it is just a specially selected pinto block from the line. the 200 block has thicker walls and can take more abuse.

right let me get this straight:
a standard hyabusa will run a 9 sec quarter
a standard gsx1000r will run a 8.5 sec quarter

the fastest tuned cossie in the country run a 11.18 iirc?
and that was a 4wd, you have rwd so less traction off the line, so im guessing around a 12sec quarter?

tell me if im wrong but thats 3 seconds off a superbike
im not disputing your spec, im saying that on the road/quarter mile nothing will come close to a bike

dan_mk1nova, why are you being so aggresive to big_wig_074? He's come on this site wanting to get involved in the Nova scene, from the sounds of it, he has a Ford background - So what?!?. As soon as he mentioned this everyone jumped on his case saying Fords were crap. I'd much rather have a Cosworth than a Nova.

Dan (admin from this site) goes onto a Ford enthusiasts site and has told me on a number of occasions how polite they are to him and they welcome his comments regarding vauxhalls and what they are capable of. You only have to look back a few posts on this site to see people slagging off other makes of cars. It's embarrasing to come on the site and read the comments that some of you put.

I'm almost ashamed to drive a Nova. I see why people make comments to Nova drivers. Most of the time Nova drivers ask for it by being aggresive and rude.

For gods sake stop bitching and slagging off other cars. At the end of the day we are all into modifying.

fastest cossies run 10s now 2wd and 4wd. and i have NEVER seen a std bike run ANYWHERE NEAR 8.5 at pod and ive been there loads!i never said i beat them on dragstrip either, from a rolling start is completely different, specially from 90mph! but anyway, thats not the point, novas CAN be good and quick, cossies usually faster top end but not always,i like em both!end of.

lol....

nowt wrong with Fords.. know someone who owned a similar spec one..

http://img4.photobucket.com/albums/0703/fast-fezzie/jbs_01-06-03.jpg

That was silly quick.. dunno what all this bollocks is about Hyerbusa engines running 8.5 sec 1/4's though, Most drag bikes with turbos and nitrous will only run circa 9.5!

Can certainly believe a car kept up with a bike, I had a play with one or 2 myself in the turbo, got the thumbs up from a rider on an R1.. :)

RJM25R
11-04-04, 09:15 AM
This is what pisses me off sometimes. If a Saxo was quicker than a nova, all these bollocks excuses come out and they get slagged off. Cossies are a different car altogether. They are quick out of the showroom, not like us with our nova' where you have to spend ??????'s to make them quick and nice.

You can go out tomorrow, buy a BMW 535i (f or g reg) for under a grand and it will sit behind a 2.0 16v nova all day long, 0-60 in 7 (a whisker behind a valver!) be a luxo-barge motorway cruiser, not break down or eat driveshafts, but it won't appeal to the people on this website.

Most of the people I have come across who have 2.0 16v nova's, turbo's and the like never use their cars in anger very often, but all the cossie owners I've met (even some of the concours guys) still drive their car like they are Colin McRae hahahaha

At the end of the day, I have wasted porsches, cossies and imprezas etc in my valver, and been beaten by them!! but I also had a METRO keep up with me at 140mph on the m1. I love ALL fast cars and even saxo's with bodykits, hideous as they are, have re-ignited the modding scene and kept it alive!

Cossies are the princes of the performance car world, golfs are the kings.

But the Nova is divine... Lay off the cossie-boy before we get tarred even further!

I'm afraid anyone who diss's any of the classic road going Fords just doesnt know their cars - simple as.

Nobody who knows anything would claim them to be " supercars" cos as we all know that term is reserved for the likes of Ferraris.

However in simple value for money terms Ford have brilliantly produced a series of great fun affordable production based tuned up cars over many years starting with the Mk1 Lotus Cortina (my old man still has his) and reaching ( arguably) the pinicle with the Cosworth engined cars.

With the Cosworth engines we are talking about a 2 liter turbo that was right at the heart of creating the current high horspower 4cyl turbo trend. In std road going form its power is quite modest but tuned up it was capable of collosal power and reliabily. Its proved itself on the road and in competition - I saw Andy Rouse destroying everything when he started using RS 500 based Sierra in the touring car championship. They were so fast they had to be put in their own class. You still see these engines all ove motorsport doing the business - they are classic engines

If you went to a Ford track day you would need to be driving something really special to compete with their best. I'm afraid Vauxhall trail in their wake. I know this because i have been in Martin Hadlands Reyland Cossie at 170mph round the Bruntinghthorpe track - nuff said.

PS - dont know where they have gone with the zetec range of engines tho - nobody ever seems to get good power out of them - pretty naff really

very true most fords are the true kings in history of motorsport..i had a xr2i and comperd to my nova gsi 1.6 it would of eaten it for breki lunch and dinner..but it just wernt reliabil, thats the only thing ill give my nova over it.. not getting into a ford vs vauxhall slaging mach as it's totaly stupid..

my favourite ca used to be a Sierra Cosworth (not saphire). Had it in one of my top trumps :).

Dad used to have a Sierra XR 4x4 and that was quick, used to overtake Mk1 MR2 Turbo's and other fast stuff.

PMSL @ the complete muppet who thinks a standard gsxr will run 8.5!

Other thing to remember with bikes, is a lightweight testrider is going to be at least a second quicker than most riders.

Having ridden lots of bikes and driven several cossies, i find it VERY easy to believe that a 400bhp cossie would beat most sunday riders on their superbikes, especially if there were a few corners involved.

Chip
