I was sitting at the lights today when an Impreza pulled up behind me. He was revving and I could see that he wanted a race. So I pushed her as hard as she could go and the Impreza passed me. We both went down the quiet road as hard as we could but he had me fair and square. Has anyone beat one?

few weeks back when i was working at a rally we went in the just novas van. Anyway inbetween stages we happened to race a scooby rally car, bare in mind we had all the tools in the back ect.... we had it but it beat us on the braking as the van cooked its brakes :(

But of course i prefer to race on the track, that way you can push it as hard as you can with out worrying about nailing some old lady who might happen to be walking i the road.

I wish I could race on track do you need any special mods or can you just drive to the race, race in your road car and drive home?

Raced my mates Scooby once but he was a crap driver so cant really take that as a win.

On the other hand there was a black Supra in Dunstable the other day, nice one aswell. He was behind me at some lights. I nailed it so did he, needless to say he did eventually pass me when i slowed down, unless he was trying.

On that note anyone seen a greeny colour mk1 Escort with a v8 engine, roll cage etc flying about in Dunstable?

Nope, green one. Lime sort of colour. I asked him to rev his engine and his whole car shook, brilliant.

On the road and track with a measley little 1600 8V  , had em every time.

Subaru's are quick, and do handle well (I almost bought one a while back but it wasn't to the wifes taste) but they aren't rocket ships. Any Nova with around 150bhp and weighing not much more than 700kg's should be able to play on level terms.

as MC said around 150hp is good enuff to play with a stock scooby, and no i didnt totaly rip him but i would say i comfortably one race was from 40mph to about 130mph (on private road) i was about 5-6 car lengths in front! it was a new scooby at the time (about a year ago) and he was trying as he slowed down by the next roundabout wound down the window and shouted "fair play" at me :D sound bloke!

dan16v
04-04-04, 12:19 PM
lol the bb tuning sticker could have given him more power! tho i didnt see a MAX POWER sticker next to it 8)
when i done the scooby and R5 the nova was rolling roaded at 180bhp, so deffo enuff to do them

yup 8) i dont generaly go around for races tho, just if it happens it happens, street racing is silly and should only realy be done in a safe environment! :D im lucky our roads down here are realy straight with no people to hit
make sure your car is in tip top condition aswell before you behave like an idiot!

All according what scooby your racing..
I had the honor of being done over by some modded import jobbie.

Sat behind it up to 140mph then he just sorta left me. ahh well. another day another dollar. Mind u he never pulled a gap on me up till then.
Sum scoobys are sky rockeets. just like our novas really. some are quick some arent that quick. just all according what and who your racing with.

All done on private ground of course my action. dont do street racing ect.

PERFORMANCE
Officially the car produces 280Bhp (but these figures are very reserved due to an agreement between Japanese car manufacturers to limit production car output to 280 bhp).

i found this on a web site dan

The pink writing usually means its a WRX Sti Scooby. A friend at work had one and it was very quick. He let me drive it and even though people slate them for being "common", you can't go wrong for the money. He paid ?7k for it, it went well and handled better, I'd definatley have one. However, my mates Evo7 is a lot nicer and isn't shy when it comes to performance :D

uk skoobs are piss poor, the wrx's are about 215hp, add to that 25% transmission loss and a big lardy arse to drag around...... :?
sti's are a hell of a lot more respectable around 280 as standard and very tunable

Been told a standard XE Nova will beat Civic Type R, Golf VR6 & Pulsars !

As I've never sat in a XE Nova, anyone shed some light...

The civic type r is suppose to do the standing 1/4 in 15.2, a standard 2.0 16v nova should be able to do it in low 15's-high 14's depending on the driver.

The VR6 isn't actually that fast as it's quite a heavy car. I'm not sure on 1/4mile time I'll look it up tonight.

Pulsars are a little faster than a standard 2.0 16v Nova though. I think they run mid 14's.

Don't quote me on all these figures, I'm going off memory here, lol

I know a corrado vr6 weighs 1250kg if that helps (power to weight ratio ?)

My Calibra weighs 1750kg eeekkk !!! :o :o

Jack

how much do novas weigh?

Aamir

I think between 750kg (base) & 950kg (gsi) but don't quote me

My brother's got a Civic saloon. thinks its the 1.6 VTEC, very quick above 6k revs, him and all his mates used to rave how fast it was and how quick it accelerated. he got 145 out of it

soon wiped the smug grin off his face when a mate filmed us racing from a standing start to about 90.
1st gear it was dead even, 2nd pulled away, 3rd pulled away. he's gutted that a poxy nova's beat him in his rice burner

Probably Chris, I just happen to recall someone mention that they ran mid 14's up the strip. I'll look it up tonight when I get home.

the R32 golf weighs twice as much as the original Mk1 golf GTI and has around twice the power. The Mk1 golf's are just as fast apparently.

i think the r32's are quite a bit faster than a mk1, but mk1 gti vs mk4 gti is a different story

I had a race with my mates brand new Type R, both started at about 20mph, mind you he was infront of me when we started, upto about 120mph i was actually gaining on him but then a stupid bend come and i had to slow down to 60 whilst i saw him dab the brakes only once and shoot round it. I didnt bother chasing him after that as he was gone.
It was a very very windy day aswell and i could feel my car getting pushed around. All in all i would say Nova's can beat Type R's on a good day just depends who your up against and what your prepared to do.

VR6's in my opinion have the loveliest engine roar to date. No contest against an xe nova. I kept up with one in my cavalier gsi so it wont stand a chance against a valver nova. Plenty around Luton to race.

Pulsar's i have never raced one but have heard they are very quick.

The way i figure is my standard valver can beat/keep up with a car that has about 50-70bhp more then me.

Mind you it does depend on the driver a hell of a lot.
