Changing gears

When driving my 14SR, 1st and 5th gears are somtimes hard to get in so i have to really smack it to the right (or left) and then push it up into gear!!!! when i got the car the bloke said to me that i need gearbox fluid but he may of just been saying that!!!! has anybody got any ideas!!!! could it possibly be the gearbox fluid???? if it i the fluid, where is the tank found in the engine??? or may it just need a new gearbox or cluch??? There a little nut by the pasenger driveshaft you need to take off and then top up the fluid, if its that

just had to top mine up. i would be driving and trying to change into 3rd and it wouldnt go into gear so i had to pull over and keep putting into first then driving off.
