Ive got a gte and its time to service the engine. I usually use 10/40wt castrol. I was wondering if its worth spending the xtra money and getting fully synthetic? And also would i be able to use the lower viscosity 5/30wt? I wasnt sure as they recomend that for modern engines.
Can anyone help?
Cheers
im running Comma semi synth (same stuff as vauxhall sell) thats good enough for my liking.
and why the hell would you want to run such a low viscosity??? lol 10 or 15/40 is fine
we dont live in the north pole so oil can be a bit thicker in the uk.

ive always used 15w40 castrol gtx
as thats what chris_w always used in her before i bought it.
on a new engine now though lol - still use the same oil though.
*touches wood*
ive never had any major noise issues like tapping etc.
and i havent really had any major oil leaks. none that havent been rectifable or because of a deteriated gasket or something.
down to personal choice at end of day

castrol has had some crappy reviews cos it has a high ash content which causes it to sludge up easier/earlier than other oils
i use halfords or granville stuff in mine and i change it every 3k
ive heard good things about mobil 1
I've always thought putting fully synthetic into an old engine previously run on semi or mineral caused hard build ups which lead to failure.
