Want to put some lights in the car - the foot wells or somewhere.
But im not too sure where i should wire them up to?? :?
I had lights wired into the interior (roof) light once before..but, they kept blowing on me...
I dont want a lot of work to do here...so any help would be much appreciated.
Plus if u think its a stupid idea...let me know

i got a full interior set and im goona wire it to a switch and then to a constant live in the fuse box!
i think their cool but alot of people dont but its up to you its your car
That is exactly how you wire them up, use a constant live to one side of the switch, and then the live supply needed for the noen on the other side of the switch. Then the switch controls when they get the live feed by the switch!

quite a good guide in the max maunua, tells you how to make a fuse box and wire it up, its really simple and easy to do, try a local alarm specialists for the parts though rather than halfords save a few bob !!!
wired my interior neons up and fitted them under the shelves on either side, and a low voltage one in the center heater grills
I've got some under the shelves and under the seats. Also some crackle neons wired up to come on in time with the bass.
If you put them under the parcel shelves in the front, make sure they're not obstructing your feet when you use the pedals!
I had a live feed (fused in the engine bay) coming thru to a panel on the centre console and set some switches on that.

thanks lads...
i think i'll go with the switch idea...i think i might put it in the centre console also!! thats a good idea :D
so its an easy job then?
im not that great with wires etc... :?

yes its easy bout an hours work maybe !!!
run a constant live from the battery in to the car, i used the same hole and grommet as ive used for the dash sender !!!
get a fuse box, relay and switch box.... hey presto job done basically
The best thing ive seen with interior neons is when you get the neon thats like thread and you bead it around the seast looks well good

Damn!
I tried it!
Sum1 told me that there were two wires running down from the roof of the car from the interior light...ok?
So, I found them kinda hid behind the drivers side door ( at the right of the foot pedals). I snipped them, bared the wires and connected the neons - Hey presto! 8)
No!!
They worked for about 5mins while i was attatching them to where i wanted...then they stopped.
So did my clock, my interior light, and my radio!?
So i think im a bit screwed now
I cant find the other end of the wire that i snipped
Help?
sounds like u blew a fuse. Why run power off the interior light? won't they only come on when the door is open (or is that what u mean to do)

it seemed like a good idea at the time sort of thing
no u can turn them on also by pulling the switch out (sidelight switch thingy)
looks like im just gonna have to run them from the battery and use a switch...
told u i wasnt that good with wires...
Not great run them live from the batery with an inline fuse and swith rather than off interor light, + u have blown the interior fuse, the fuse is 30 something

i checked all the fuses and they're all fine...
so im nopt too sure what it is...i think its the wires that i snipped at the start of the 'project'!! :?
so...i just go to a motor factors and get a switch and fuse then?
just had a thought, if you got a cigarette lighter you could use that as a power supply?
Where can you buy neons that come on wit the bass of your tunes? and how much please? I think i would like some ... currently got my neons in the foot wells
You can buy sound sensing ones, or just wire them into to the subs :D
Can you buy them from any car place ... lol eg. halfords?
the sound things? Not sure.... i think they sell the neon dancing frames, the ones that go round ur head unit, so u could get one of they and take the power supply box off it and wire ur neons up from that. Be expensive at halfords tho.
I only used halfords as an example cos i cudnt think of anywhere else off top of my head, it wa jus an example of the type of shop i wa thinkin bout ... lol!
yeah yeah....
online places usually have better prices, if u don't mind waiting for delivery. A lot of them deliver for free as well.
What sort of prices am i lookin at?
for the neon "dancing frame" thing... about ?10-20. Might be worth looking on ebay too. Alternatively, you could look on www.maplin.co.uk and see whats there - they're a big electrical supplier and have all kinds of bits n pieces and might have sound sensing things on there. Cheap stuff too (but good luck finding what u need lol)
Thanks am deffo gona buy some tho :)
another nova driver converted to the ways of the neons!
you obviously don't have to go directly from the battery? You could run it off ignition live or CD player live yeah?
do the neon kits come with inline fuses or do you have to sort one out yourself?
where have you mounted your switch?
can anyone recommend a good set of neons that are cheap(ish)?
also, can you get different voltage ones so thaat they aren't blinding?
think that covers everything, lol  :D
replying to original problem...prob be best to try and trace the wire you cut. Where abouts did you cut the wire (where too on the car)?

lol not too many questions then...
I have a power feed coming off my battery, but i use it for other stuff as well. You could take power from cigarette lighter if you have one, or ignition or CD player would be just as good (if they're a constant live).
Most neons come with a cigarette lighter adapter (plug in) with a fuse in it. If you're hard wiring the neon (i.e. cutting off the plug) you'll need to sort out a fuse. If this is coming form ignition or cd player its most likely already fused but i'd strongly reccomend adding another fuse just to be safe. If you're adding a new feed from the battery, put the fuse under the bonnet (not in the cabin, as this could be a fire hazard).
My switches i've mounted in the centre console in a blanking plate. Its handy because you can run all the wiring from behind the dash, under the console and up to the switches, keeping it all tidy.
I got my interior neons from halfords, they were about ?16 for 12 inch ones i think, but only because i couldn't be arsed with the whole mail order thing. They're Prism ones and give a good amount of light. There's always lots of neons on ebay.
As for different power i'm not sure, maybe you could wire in a resistor or something to reduce the power (see maplins site again). I found that neons aren't as blinding as a normal electic light and give off just as much light. If you don't want to be dazzled then fit them somewhere that's not in your line of sight (under seats, under front parcel shelves, back of B pillar etc).
hope that helps!

i got my ones from a matey who got them from maccess a car accesories warehouse!
there well cool

Personally I'd fit a inline fuse if you're going to put them on a switch with a permanent live going through it............
