View Full Version : 6x9's refusing to work
Ok took out the old 6x9's left in the car by the previous owner as they sucked and fitted some bad ass kenny ones instead. But now they crackle at anything above low volume and sumtimes dont work at all. I havent got one of them screwed into the parcel shelf sturdy yet so its kinda loose would this make a dif ?
Also the connections for the 6x9s from the car one side has only a bit of wire and a connector which seems to big to fit the port on the 6x9, any ideas on what i should do ?

use ne wiring and make sure they r in phase eg. neg and positive r the right way round
as for them not being bolted down securley, that will make them vibrate themselves in the parcel shelf
make sure all the connections are clean

sounds like u are running realyy hi wattage spkers on a low wattage hed they are undr pwrd and pulling to my from the head
yeah sounds like your headunit hasn't got enough power to power the speakers. i had a 4x50w headunit and it played thru 6x9s easy.

believe it or not there are some really nice heds out there but they for get to tell u that they or only 5w yes thats rite i sed 5 w and basically the speaker wud get moved out but then the hed cant pull it back in and so on check ur ratings
aw baws lol
What should i do, spent not far off ?100 for the mp3 headunit and about ?60 on the 6x9s, can i do anything except replaxe either of these two items ?
nope, they wouldn't crackle if that was the case, they would siimply clip and distort.
Mine were crackling and i just securedall the the connections in the back of my headunit.
Check to see if your Red and Yellow wires (coming out he back of your headunit) are touching, they r the ignition/+ wires i think, mine had rubber connectors n r fancy ones, they wern't connected together properly and they were touching, causing the speakers to crackle...
just check all your connections, if your not using an ISO block, get some electrical connection blocks and connect all your wires properly ! it's worth it.
haha 5w headunit's my arse lmao ! hahahah
Look on your speakers and tell me what the Rated power is ? it should be something like 40-50w ideally. Not the Peak power (that'l be like 250-300w or somethin)
Then tell me wot power your headunit channels r
If they headunit channels are within 10w of the rated power of the 6x9's then it should work fine , it's just your connections r dodgy.
Are you runing just 2 6x9s ?
ohhh and finally, make sure none of the wires or connections at the backof your headunit are touching the metal cage that supports the unit, or infact each other, even if thye are unused wires. Tape the ends of all unused wires !
if your heaunit was 5 w, it wouldn't move the speaker out and not pull it back in, it would jst make it move about a 10th of what it's meant to move, if not at all. A speaker is an Astable, not a monostable. It's only stable in 1 state. Stationary !
ohhh god, just saw ure last bit
yes i no i can edit, this improves my post count tho !
try running new speaker wires thru the car, it sounds like your using the old ones that were previously there !? that could be the problem. Simply run them under the back seats, just lift em up, down the sides and take of the kickplates, run them under the kitplates and up behind the dash !
never use old wires, it does make a difference !
