on my eninge it says 12nv (its the carb'd 1.2) but haynes says the code should be 12st it hink or 12sb. the book that comes with the car confirms engine block code of 12nv?

please tell me i aint got some narrow valve 1.2...

cheers

nv doesnt mean narrow valve

the First letter is the compression ratio:

N = 9-9.5:1
S = 9.5-10:1

the second letter stands for the induction system:

T & V = carburettor
Z = Single point injection
E = multipoint injection

a 1.2 carb is 12ST meaning a compression between 9.5 and 10:1 and a single barrel carb

your code however is a bit strange as it signifies a lower compression ratio but carburettor fueled (the 1.2 spi is C12NZ)

looking at the epc the 12nv appears to have mostly the same components as the 12st so it may just be a european version of the same engine? or possibly a versoin built on a C12NZ block for a very late carbed 1200?

my car is a k reg 1.2 flair, i think it was one of the last carb'd 1.2 to be made. so it wudnt have as much power as a 12st then?

Its very doubtful that it is a 1.2 carb. J reg 1.2 carbs are very rare (cambs got one though). It more likely the C12NZ engine (1.2i)

the 14NV is the 1.4sr engine.
not heard of 12NV.

hrm very dodgy

u sure it wasnt an injection? and uve fitted a carb on in its place??

the spi injection system looks just like a carb unless you know engines well...

easiest way to tell would be to look under the glovebox for the ecu

now now ladies

i have a 12nv in my 1.2 carbe flair mk2. Ive encounterd this problem many times, well not so much a problem, more of a curious pain in the ass.

Its an OPEL engine that the germans use a lot of in their 1.2's

its got 3bhp less than a "normal" 1.2 (book power) but its got a tad more torque.

but were not talking driveshaft snapping levels here lol

so is it a short or long stroke 1.2 block?

havent had mine appart, but id guess that the 1.2s are all the same stroke, for cost reasons

They're not that rare. Everyone i know with a J 1.2 is carbed.

And mine's a 12NV as well.

mines an H to be fair lol

most MK2 1.2's are injection. its the Flair edtion thats got the carb, but obv any from mid 92 on wont be carbed lol

Mk2 merit = carb; merit+ = inj afaik

as far as im aware the 12nv was only used for 3 years to "bridge the gap" on the mk1/mk2 change

think it was 1989-1991
