might sound silly, but when ur boot if flushed compleyley with no rear wiper, does it make it harder to see out the back when its pissing hard?

but what if you wanna keep the rear wiper?
but what if you wanna keep the rear wiper?
get a bodyshop to do it and they would prolly jus cut out and smooth around the wiper bit
so these pannels just stick on really or is there alot more to it than that
I've got one of the panels. Started fitting it to a tailgate Kev gave me last year, but never got round to finishing it off, probably will later this summer.
I don't know if they're all the same moulding but they look piss poor if you don't alter it and stick it straight on. I chopped the top curve off mine then spent ages making the fibreglass really thin where it blends into the boot. With the top off mine it should blend in about 2mm up inside the window rubber; thing is if you push it all the way into the lip it pulls the bottom of the panel up so it doesn't sit properly.
I would recommend getting one cheap if you can then spending a while chopping it up. In fact I have some pics:
At the moment

The bottom edge. Without cutting it the edge ends about half a center up from the bottom of the tailgate:

There you can see where I've cut the top lip off and worked it so the panel is really thin. This edge should go up and under the rubber, but then obviously not curve round under the rubber into the groove as that's what I've chopped off:

This is the best pic at the moment of the sides, the SR/GTE etc wraparound spoiler comes down and covers this join, if you don't have one of these spoilers would probably be loads more work to make it discreet:

More pics as and when I can be arsed to finish it

i did mine last year with 1 of those pannels, have a look on my feature.
its not as easy as you think, to get it perfect it needs alot of filling/sanding/cutting etc. & tbh i got pi55ed off with sanding it down :x
im gonna get the bodyshop to give it a once over when i have the respray done
To be honest, i guess there is no "really easy" way to flush a tailgate, it's allways a bit of an arse !
The easiest and longest lasting ways involve the Fibreglass Skin/Cover that everyone has sed about. Although, they don't blend in very well around the side pillars ofthe back window, be prepared to sand the skin down to blend in
The main problems are that any filler you use will crack eventually, due to excess vibrations e.t.c . So the best way is to use as little filler as possible.
be careful what you fill your numberplate recess with because if it's jsut a skin with no thick part to fill in the plate recess it will wobble with vibrations n crack any sealent/filler you use, bit like a big amplifier , amplifiying any vibrations you come across
Best bet is to buy one from Ebay, i've seen quite a few good smooth boots going for about 70 quid, primered ! the final test is really once it's sprayed ! cos then you can see wether it's flat without any dimples n slight defects
