drool....... not at the car either... at the meet... png national day '96 at santa pod... no corsas... no pvg... was a mint day out and my first png event
in my service history have a rolling road print out for sie bellis's car, it has that exact number plate f490 ehl wrote on the bak! got 185bhp@8000rpm, was that engine put in my white one that he built? cant see why it made 185bhp with the spec my engine had in xe form!
fearless
19-03-04, 11:35 PM
When the green nova was written off - the same engine was put in your white one
When sie was building the green one - he didn't have an ecu - so I supplied him with a spare one I had - Untill that rolling road session we didn't know it was a modified ecu !!!!

 How old was brett there dave! My how he has aged!
Sie's nova was the one that got me started  Any idea what cars he got now mate?
nice! no wonder it kept up with audi tt's then
Karl-Those pics were taken by my own fair hands back in '96. That would make Brett 25-ish back then????
Ste-Back wen the PNG was a good club!!
Dan16v-I was at GTI centre Huddersfield when Si's car ran 180bhp, Bretts ran 178 and Daves ran 179!!!!
How things have changed!!! Back then, Si's car got a feature with twin lamps, a spray and 16" wheels, Bretts was a standard looker with a valver with alloys and Nicks just looked like a GSI with speedlines. I mean, they were all mint cars (no pun intended!) in fact those and Dave's rusty rocket were the inspiration for 8 other north-west valvers (including mine!) but nowadays, you have to be spending ?20k to get a mag feature..
ALL HAIL THE NOVA!

Dan16v-I was at GTI centre Huddersfield when Si's car ran 180bhp, Bretts ran 178 and Daves ran 179!!!!!
Well done rick - I couldn't remember where the rolling road day was - I think the magazine article quoted my rusty rocket as having a James Bond style smoke screen - and a picture to prove it !!!! LOL
Dave's rusty rocket were the inspiration for 8 other north-west valvers (including mine!)
In it's day the 'Rusty Rocket' was mint - used to appear at many shows - even featured in various car Mags - those were the days !!!
Which were the other 8 north west valvers you were thinking of Rick !!
Ok here we go....
Andy Chan, Andy Bollocks (built one, bought one! LOL!), Martin Kelson ,Brett Rogan (ended up with a V6) Sanjay, Lee (red nova-got done for DD) Howell Jones (bought Si's/Andy bollocks car now owned by Dan16v) the lad with the Rover Amaranth Pearl GSI (dunno his name-works as a sprayer) and Lee Haslam (who I took to the NW meeting with me) Oh in fact that's NINE people!!! Maybe more!!
And me, that's TEN people!!!
That's what the rant the other month was about, people not taking nova's to the nova meets, because if those ten people hadn't seen those cars, they might not have built THEIR cars, and eventually new stuff stops happening doesn't it?
I wouldn't have still had a nova at 30 if I hadn't seen quality cars in the metal, by going to meets and shows. Magazines never show you the detail you are looking for. Look how many rough cars like Ian Searle's scrapheap look reasonable in mag features but are rotten when you see them for real.....

All them car's inspired me to get a Nova, all through the magazines. I only found Novaload in 2000!

Jamie Paiton !!!
Wot about Nick Caro, Colin Franklin, Dave Broomfield, Ian Tither, Ian Storey
Just to name a few - off the top of my head !!
the old days of png were defo loads better, it was at the '98 CCC castle combe day where i ended up getting spotted for my feature whilst on one of the stands.
(bet ian burned my mag feature in disgust of colour lololol)
Fearless-
In fact, I don't know most of those other names you mention(with the exception of Nicks who was mentioned right at the start of the post- as one of the inspirational cars)
. I know who david broomfield is cos of Lee Haslam but i wouldn't know him if he poked a 300bhp driveshaft in my eye!LOL
Who the fuck is this Ian Storey chracter???
http://www2.novaload.net/files/dan/pict0007.jpg
Against all the banter and piss taking :P that was inspiration to some as the kit was one of the first 'proper' full kits for the general public and the old nova, even that ian story oddball you mention used some features from it on the birth of his first creation.

I wouldn't have still had a nova at 30 if I hadn't seen quality cars in the metal, by going to meets and shows.
Its true - as you all know I'm ridiculously old and shud have put my slippers on and retired to driving a "sensible family saloon" yrs ago but once you have had a nova esp. if you have got some speed put in it, a lot of other so called performance cars just dont measure up for pure driver/owner involvement. Its easy to get pissed off and sell but you miss them when they have gone
There is nothing quite like a Nova - they have real character and are real fun as anyone knows whose had a go in a T40 1.6 or a 2.0l 16v will testify.
The top Novas in the country really are brilliantly prepared and very fast with it.
Ahh the good ol days

the silver one has the same wheels as me but his r 17's
Ok the pearl orange one was bought by a lad from OLDHAM (SHAZ), after 1 month it snapped it's cambelt, lunching the allegedly "race-spec" engine. The engine was stripped by a mate of mine (JUTT) who found it was just a standard engine. Jutt fitted a turbo engine for Shaz, and it ran ok for a while and Shaz bought an MR2 TURBO, then an impreza, then a supra etc etc etc and last time I sawe him, the car was still in his garage but he won't sell it or break it.
The original engine was taken by Jutt as payment for fitting the turbo, and scrapped, except the MBE engine management and the throttle bodies which were then fitted to his GSI 16V nova (that never saw the light of day!!). They then were offered to me while my valver was being built for an all inclusive price of ?800. I didn't want therm myself cos I had a strict budget (I should have done it i realise now!!LOL!!) so I purchased them on behalf of my mate, Sanjay Dave (a NW Ex PNG guy) who had a black GTE valver with white compomotives and the first person (allegedly) to do a VR6 splitter back in '98, later to sport irmscher twin lamps) to get the good price for him.
Fearless fitted the throttle bodies for him, and he went to SBD for a high-torque exhaust manifold costing ?200, and smoked it round with (allegedly) 208bhp for a bit. He fitted wilwoods, half cage, GSI interior inc. dash, ?2000 install, rear discs, full respray (by the guy who painted my purple car!!!) but lost interest and decided to buy a golf VR6. The guy selling the golf offered him ?4k aginst the valve nova which looked very nice (the car) but was structurally not in good shape. Fearless removed the throttle bodies again and Sanjay traded the car.
But what happened to the throttle bodies? I hear (someone?) cry!!!
Well those throttle bodies and the SBD manifold, together with the MBE,
that were originally in the orange car,
Then "given" to jutt, and fitted to his car that never ran....
Then offered to me...
Then fitted to Sanjay's car......
Are now fitted into Brett Warburtons peppermint show car!!!!

It had 16V Renault wheels on, then Softstars, then the Senekas, and just lately these - I can't for the life of me remember what they're called - but they were supplied by Courtenay.
Saw the car about 2 months ago and it still had them on...
I honestly didn't realise I was this sad - LOL.
It was running a Courtenay 300BHP engine rebuild : this actually equates to about 260bhp @ fly though.

I find it hard to believe any LET was pushing 300bhp back in the day, lets face it mark watts car never looked like it had the bhp he said it had. I have the mag feature with that yellow car in, when it was up for sale it was up for something like ?7k and it had a rather crispy chassis leg from what i was told. Rick
The q reg one was fucked from being battered around all the time like a moron. It was owned by Andy Windsor, he fitted a f-28 box to it back in the day. Nice guy, and then he moved on to renault 5 pressure cookers, setting up as "ak tuning" I think it was, did a rev's front cover in his 5 turbo, then sold it and the lad who had it then got a mag feature too!!

AJ Tuning. LMFAO@ pressure cookers.
I spoke to him yonks ago on another forum, he said he sold it to his mate who promtly caned the arse off it and quite frankly killed it. That lad then PX'd it into a sports car garage near me (on the A20 - now bankrupt) which is where Mike bought it from.. He got shafted by the garages warranty and ended up spending a fortune on it getting it right. Andy said he wished he'd never sold it.
Rick, yeah had a crispy drivers chassis rail, not the end of the world but still not worth the money.
It made about 260BHP at one of these "mobile" rolling roads at a local car show... Saw the receipts for its latest engine rebuild, ?6500 from Courtenay!!! Did anyone see the brakes on it?

There was a bright green one exactly the same as that.. same wheels etc with Turbo lump? Featured in Fastcar IRC..
(BREENY.... GREEN ONE...)
FRONT COVER OF FAST CAR IF I REMEMBER RIGHTLY??? Supposed to have 270bhp but got spanked BIG TIME at Bruntingthorpe (200 nova day)by Brett W and Nick Caro when they both had std valvers with chips etc...... Bit like the orange one mentioned earlier (the one with Bretts throttle bodies!!) that allegedly had 258 BHP!!!!! BOLLOCKS!
Look at OLD SCHOOL-HERE IT COMES!!!! For a reprint if the famous REVS day. I'll put it on tomorrow.
