car will not start

my car wont start it turns over and gives a spark from the lead.
when i turn it over, every now and again it blows up through the carb.
any one any ideas.

u might have the leads on the wrong way, what car is it?

its a 1ltr does any one have a diagram of where the leads go

When you say it blows back up the carb, sound like your valve timing is out. How many miles ago was the timing belt last changed? Check the tension on it.

No timing belt on the 1litre!
Check spark plugs, leads and their order, distributor timing, contacts & points, and check the rotor arm.
Also make sure fuel is reaching the carb, and look down the barrels of the carb to ensure petrol is fead in when the throttle is pressed..
