Bit unrelated to a nova, but anyway

my mates looking at a 306 1.9 Turbo Diesal

It says it has a Dump valve

I allways was under the impression that you don't really dump valve a diesel cos the turbo's run at a much lower pressure ? so there's little or no point. i;m probably horrifically wrong !

Are they confusing a Dump Valve with a Wastegate ? which is a completly different thing.

i've heard it running and It makes a faint Whistling sound as the turbo charges n at certain revs it dumps the pressure, isn't that a wastegate ? not a dump valve ? i allways thought dump valves discharge the turbochargers pressure when you shift gear/or revs drop significantly ?

He wants a little bit more than usual for the car cos of lal the money he's invested in it, it's very nice, especially the extra money that's been spent on his "dump valve" . is he tryin to rip someone off ?

There a couple of 306's that go round my down with dump valves they do actually dump fairly loud :o

yer but since the diesel has no throttle plate u need an electronic controlled one

basically it uses vacuum from the brake servo fed via a electronic solenoid which triggers when u let off the throttle

turbo pressure on diesels is normally similar to petrols infact

fitting one to mine in about a week and its running 20psi and the wastegate flutters like mad when you back off from full boost!
should sound mint with a dump valve, will get photos and movie when done.

the solenoid valve needed is about ?50 so he is trying to rip ya off if he says he has spent loads on the dump vlave setup, (unless he paid through the nose for it)

happy modding

yeah, got a solenoid valve off and escort td (passenger side of engine bay at the top (little black cylinder)) just fitting a microswitch and away we go, found another way to do it - use a poppet valve with a roller arm on it instead of the microswitch eliminating all of the electrics
