A while ago i was asked by a mate to provide a number of old wing mirrors for him to use to test for their aerodynamic qualities in a wind tunnel.

These included a bedford van, a nova, a landy and a small retro fit mirror.

The nova came out a lot worse than the others with a drag coefficient of 1.30 compared to the others which ranged from 0.50 - 0.70 at 100mph

Its not so much the size as the shape. The nova mirror suffered from having relatively sharp angular leading edges plus the top angled slope was acting as a mini spoiler creating down force.

The bedford van was the best. Although it appeared to be overall bigger than the rest the actual area that the air passed over wasnt. The rounded design allowed the air to release easier and there was no down force being exerted

:o that is interesting!! thought a landy mirror would be very poor, have you seen the size of them lol

strange but true

If your anywhere near southampton pop into the university and they mite let you use their wind tunnel, you could test out a whole loada stuff on there !

my brother is at uni there n he ses if you walk down n sneak about sometimes they have concept cars n really wierd shit down there.
from manufacturers

it's somit like the most high tech wind tunnel in europe or sommit !

It would be interesting to know the aerodynamic qualities of the nova. (car body) and compare it with other newer cars?

ah well

Thought the Nova hatch was coefficient of 0.37 and the saloon was 0.38.

I would expect newer cars to be better
