just been into the memorial of the bombing of W?rzburg

was very creepy for me, being a brit and all. We absolultely leveled the city in 2 hours. it was done by the same crews that leveled Dresden.

i have some photos that ill put on here in a few weeks, but man it made me think lol

as a kid i used to live in germany. dad was in the forces.

anyway, i remember going around concentration camps, looking at rememborence walls and mass grave yards. it's only now that i am older you look back at what i have seen and it does make you think!

I'm currently reading books by Stephen Ambrose (He did the 'Band Of Brothers' book that the truely excellent TV series was made from).

I've just finished 'Deep Blue' which is all about a US bombing squadron - And believe me they really did drop a whole lot of tonne-age of bomb-age upon German and part of Italy during WWII :o

I'm currently reading 'Pegasus Bridge' which is about the capture of....Pegasus Bridge (as it's now called) - Really really amazing stuff when you consider that all what I'm reading really did happen, it's no Hollywood movie or Sci-fi book - It's 100% fact.

Truely humbling stuff what those guys sacrificed for us 60 years ago.

Jules :(He did the 'Band Of Brothers' book that the truely excellent TV series was made from).

I found this so good when i first watched it on tv(bbc) that this christmas i had it as a present, the hole dvd box set,you watch it and think oh my god could i have done the things thes men had to do?they whent through hell on earth,if they hadent we would not be here to talk about it..
When i tallk to my grandad who is now 81,we tallk about thing's he whent through and he tells me thing he hasent said to no one for all thes years cus it still hurts and makes him sad thinking of it..
They whent through somthing we shell never quite understand or know what was like..and as far as i am concernd diserve all our respect for there efforts to give us freedome too be who we are today, and more should be taught at schools for the young kids today so they can understand all this and respect there elders for what they have done for them and everyone to come..

I agree 100% Scott - I too watched BoB on BBC2 and also got the DVD box set (In limited edition tin case - Bling bling!!).
An excellent TV series which turns out more like a very very long film in the end, It's worth checking out the Extras DVD, and in particular the diarys of one of the actors (Can't remember his name atm) - just to see what the actors also had to go through before filming just so it looked right, no reading scripts, do a bit of acting and back home until tomorrow - no sir-ee!!!
:o

I also agree with what you said about being taught about WWII at school, We should never forget what these people went through so we didn't have to, most of the soldiers were under the age of 25 - infact if you were 25 then you were considered an 'old' soldier during wartimes.
It'd be good to teach the youth of today all about it whilst there are still some survivors around to tell the tale first hand 'cos they won't be around forever.
