16v uses less fuel :o ????
how much faster loads or a little
is it a massive job to change the 8v lump for the 16v lump?

Ste_Nova

cause it uses less fuel...... most performance mods improve fuel economy

Not sure how much money you've spent on a 2.0 8v already, but for similar money you can get a 2.0 16v. The 2.0 8v is a tourquey engine, but really the 16v is the better option.

well i have been offered a 2.0 8v for ?500 off a member on this site and i am trying as we speak to raise the funds but i wanna know if it is worth ripping out a perfectly good 2.0 8v for the 16v

and i wanna know if it will still be as much of an animal

2.0 8v for 500 quid sounds very expensive!!!! mate tbh you could get a valver for that if you look hard enough

what bhp is the 1.8 16v? Around 130?

I'm guessing it'll weigh the same as a 2.0 16v though so best go for 2.0.

500 quid!!! theres a 20 SEH (2.0 8v from SRi 130) for sale on migweb for 50 quid, i was tempted to buy it for spare parts

As for the pace of a 2l 8v well its quick, although as mine is fairly tuned (164bhp), and it will beat valvers (not top end tho), however if you spend as much on a 2l 16v as has been spent on my engine then the valver will whip mine, but then again you have paid alot more for the engine in the first place.

Either way the cars are fun fun fun :D

Would you need 2 weld up the engine bay with a 2.0 8v then??

Well yeah, as with all big power hikes and increased weight of engine then its definately a good idea, i say this hipocritically cos mine hasn't had it done, the guy i bought it off didn't think it necessary, i will do it at some point soon tho :)

500 seems expensive even for a 16V let alone a dodgy old 8V

no ya dozy gits lol
the car as well - lol @ just thinking the engine.

its a silver GTE with some welding needed in the boot and exhaust with the 2.0 8v already in it for ?500
that seems so cheap to me

8v would be cheaper option because of course you need to re-build an engine before transplanting it. therefore; rebuilding an 8v 2.0 is cheaper than 16v 2.0; less cams/valves/headwork is cheaper; bottom end the same though.
otherwise you cud be runnig round in a not-up-to scratch engine; patchy or under par reliablilty, performance, economy; whats the point after all.

but from whats been said, its already been transplanted. I'd buy it if i were u mate, the engine alone would cost about ?150, then say ?600 for a GTE so you're already saving money which u can use to do the welding it needs and tidy it up a bit.

Course, don't forget to check the insurance. Keep ringing LV until you get a price you like

lol am i missing something. who mentioned a 1.8 16v?

as for rebuilding, peester, it's a personal choice usually budget orientated. but really speaking for road use and some trackday use, if it ain't broke don't fix it. especially as there are plenty of spare 2.0 8v's for when it breaks. if your building an engine for out and out racing where it's regurlarly 7000rpm plus then yes you, or should I say a professional engine builder with all the machinery, should rebuild it.

why rebuild: some people like to do it properly. thats all. each to their own aye it.

I mentioned it just then silly.

Interested to know, i havn't heard of anyone doing this conversoin (1.8 8v i have), insurance would be a bit cheaper i'm thinking.
