I have a 1400SR with ported and gas flowed head, piper 275 cam, webber 32/34 k & N and a straight through exhaust system. I have been offered a SRi engine for a good price.

My question is, what would be quicker? What would be more economical? My 1400SR as it is, or the SRi with the cam?

Im planning on putting the cam into the SRi engine.

Cheers Paul

would need SRI/GSI/GTE fuel tank and lines and sri ecu along with engine of course!

Insuring it with your current company would become interesting as its an SRI in an SR shell and they might not like that.....

i dont think you will be looking at a huge gain with the SRI, your already pushing 80+ bhp yes?

you may find that you will loose power as the injection is crap on novas and will starve your mods where as a carb can be set up to what the engine needs.
if ure looking for more power go for a set of twin 40 carbs. make all the difference as im sure alot of people will tell you on here

My carbueretteour is causing me a few problems, webbers are renknown for overfuelling etc, and my car isnt set up properly. It has been set up so nothing will blow up, less power. I want it set up so i may put a conrod or something through my block. :D

The SRi engine is quite economical isnt it? And I can do around 55miles to a tenner at the moment when i drive how i usually drive. traffic and heavy right footed. :D

I used to get at WORST 75 miles to a tenner on your setup...........

crusing i cud get 100 miles to a tenner, sumthing isnt right there imo.

55 miles to a tenner is 40s type of MPG when driving hard....

I am getting 44 miles to the tenner on a standard pieburg carb with filter and no internal mods!

Any ideas as this is terrible, there are NO air leaks. A tube of gasket sealant made sure of that around manifold gaskets top and bottom.

I can't feel any lack of power though, it actually pulls from my mates equivalent car and won't spit flames so it is burning it, and no it doesn't smell of fuel so ne leaks either.

If it will be expensive then I don't wanna know as I have a 1.8 to go in in the next 3 weeks, could do with saving some beer money thats all!

Paul head down the 127 towards, basildon, past the raleigh wier, then on the right, directly opposite the Dick Turpin Pub, there is a rolling road place. Think it's call Victor Service Station. They are a weber specialist. ?30 + vat an hour. wont take more than that though.

i get 100 miles out of ?10 with this setup

1.4sr with 2mm overbore
standard new 1.4sr cam
weber 32/34
4 branch and system

quicker than a standard vtr

..... but i just picked up a c16se.... and i'm gonna turbo it

Snowface

with the setup below i get 250 miles to the tank (34mpg) with BP Ultimate (97/98 ron).

1300sr bored to 1324
kent ast2 cam
Weber 32/34
4-2-1 sr manifold.

This is driving sensibly, i've just had the fuelling set up so its going to get even more miles to tank now hopefully.

Can anyone tell me the bhp of a xr2i?
I was gaining on one up hill this avo (90mph) but he had 2/3 passengers and me on my own.

Here you go SnowFace, bhp of XR2i is 110.
Which is about on par with the GTE/GSI seeing as they have the same capacity engines.
1989 Ford Fiesta XR2i
Max. output 111.5 PS (110.0 bhp) (82 kW)
@6000 rpm
Max. torque 138.0 Nm (102 lbft) (14.1 kgm)
@2800 rpm
