Why would I want to do something daft and drive it after spending lots of money on it. Just want it to sit and look pretty at the shows

Only messing, will probably become my daily driver again when its finshed

Look forward to trying to smoke your Pulsar in it 8)

Neil, the cage is from Fabricage, they used to supply Courtenay with the cages but they don't anymore for some reason. Had to get one from them because of the tilt/slide sunroof.

How hard was it to fit and how do u bolt it in, just drill and bolt?

Lee H

It was ?390 delivered. Don't know if there is a different one for Nova's without a sunroof.

Was very easy to fit really, just drill the holes and bolt it in.

Fabricage is based in cambridge. I had a rear cage of them a while ago. Dunno why yours cost so much. He quoted me 110 for the front cage and 40 for the door bars and i bought the rear cage for 150. And i have the brackets welded on incase i want to add the front cage!.

LOL at Nick,

I know more than anyone my car isn't perfect but that really knackered chassis leg you are talking about seems to have been coping with 204 bhp and torque you can only dream of with no problems so far. I believe your shell is so mint that you ended up suing Courtenay because your engine bay started coming apart with standard XE power!!

Also if i'd spent the sort of money you have on my car I would hope it would be absolutely perfect but I can't see me ever spending that as at the end of the day its still only going to be a H reg Nova. Not so precious it needs a car cover and a garage.

It may well become my daily driver again as well until the chassis leg gives in

Oh dear.... time to get your facts right!!

As for your car copeing with 204bhp?? its surely spent more time of the road since you've had engine in?? as you been sorting stuff out???? once everythings back together and your car is boosting properly (you were having problems with that at first weren't you) and its been driven, then you can comment about it pulling YOUR car to bits... As for the power figure, Brett W car is exactly same spec as my engine his was rolling roaded at GRV Littleborough at 202Bhp.... my engine according to Steve Broughton when he mapped it up is very good!! so i would hope for a similar bhp.

My engine bay didnt start falling apart at all, i wanted to get it Strengthened up before it did!!! but there wasn't any signs of it anyway once work was started. Anyway god knows what your car will be like with your engine in when its spot on!! (you had it strengthened havent you??) As i used to drive over to Lincoln every weekend in the car the transformation when i got it back was unreal.... no torque steer etc etc.. money well spent!! Other people can back me up on this im sure!

Courtenay thing was a number of issues mainly bad workman ship on two parts , fuel lines and where the full pump had been mounted, the rear disk coversion they did as well the brackets they had fabricated etc etc and Chris Courtenays attiude, and the fact Courtenay take a lump hammer to the chassis leg!! which the motor engineer who did my report wasn't impressed with!! The other person who originally made the claim against them with the backing of the insurance company didnt get as far as they wished as they insurance company pulled out...I was hopeing that would get further than they did because it would have helped me. Instead of Chris Courtney holding his hands up and admitting he was at fault (he could have said we'll sort it all out for you he started waffleing on about how good they are we work for Vaux HQ blah blah!!) he just laughed it off…. He had done this to quite a few people, it wound me up he thought he was invincible and no one could argue with him Since Jon Shield has taken over the companies going from strength to strength.

As for the car cover.... it was you who appeared to be struggling to cover your car!! there are a number of other people i know who keep there cars covered... SO WHAT!! I thought i might be doing you a favour...obviously not!!

When you first came along to meets etc you were welcomed and given plenty of advice and put in touch with people who could do stuff for you... repaint (you pissed Adrian Culley about) bodywork... you've pissed Dave B about and moaned about his work etc etc, you ask alot of people for help, they do there best for you but you end up waisting there time! You say something and then a few months later you expect people to help you out again... and for next to nothing!!

YOu always moan that nothing ever gets organised...well your wrong!! we put suggestions forward people say yes, when it comes to parting with money, suprise suprise people cant make it!! its these people who always seem to moan!! YOu organise something!

Ive not been aware that ive pissed you off in the past but you seem to take great pleasure in taking the piss out of me/my car?? why??

Incidently, ive not had any problems with my car???? when you have throttle bodies it takes a while to get everything sorted... car was started by DIY in about Feb, i didnt manage to get it mapped up till July, i was waiting on JP to finish my manifold amongst other things!

Cheers

Sorry Nick, i didn't realise I had said I had more power than you, oh actually i didn't I said I had more torque. Torque is the thing that is going to rip the engine bay to pieces if anything is. When I fitted the turbo lump the car was used daily for work for 6 months out of the 7 the engine was fitted, I know I had a few teething problems but it is to be expected when you do the engine conversion yourself instead of paying a professional. The chassis leg still looks no different to the day i got the car and I have done approx 20k in it.

As for the boost problem that was sorted and got the car running pretty well until I was offered my other car for nothing (can't turn down a free car) and decided to take the nova off the road to work on it. Turns out the new car is pretty good fun and i have started modifying that  so I don't have the money to work on the nova as much considering I am still at college for a few more years.

You know my car has been strengthened. It has the Harry Hockley kit and stitch welding which is quite enough considering i've has seen an old Courtenay 2.0 16v turbo conversion recently with no welding, engine in for lots of years and no major problems.

As for the PNG meets I know of at least 5 region 2 members who haven't bothered to renew this year.... read into it what you will!!

Cheers

I knew dave had done work for you , but couldn't remember without speaking to him if he had or not...

You had the strengthening done before you put a 2.0 16v in??

I had the 2.0 16v put in with out any strengthening work done, and you couldn't push the car hard at all, handleing went crap..... it was like this for a while before i had all the work done, once that was completed it completely transformed the car, you could drive it hard.... like i said i used to drive to Lincoln every weekend 1-2 hour drive so could tell the difference straight away.. :D money well spent... My car was an investment and wanted it right and to stay in one piece!!

Anyone who has a 2.0 16v then has it strengthened at a later date will tell you the same.... some people who do it right first time wouldn't know any different.....

As for the PNG or PVG... im well aware what people think about the club... can't be helped im afraid, i don't get much feed back etc from them!! I was trying to help one lad out who had sent all his memebership off before Xmas (new member) and hadn't recieved anything still at the begining of April, thankfully its all sorted now...it shouldn't happen!!

Meets at Cheadle, because people turn up at cheadle at different times its difficult to say lets go for a drive because if people turn up after and have made a trip to the meet and we aint there its not very good!! Once people arrive we all end up having a good chin wag anyway... as much as i would like to do different things its actually quite hard to get people to commit or part with ??? to do stuff, its hard to keep everyone happy!!

Ive recently started going to vxlscc meets at the Millstone near Stretton, they have a big crowd of enthusiastic people im hopeing to display with them at a few shows this year...

Everyones welcome to our meets a Cheadle, the more the merrier, so come people turn up!!

Cheers

Nick

Hmm i like me carbs personally.
I made 200bhp on a low reading rolling road. need to try one of these fantasy ones. Wonder what i stand to make with throttles to. ah well.
200bhp whith a oil burner.

Cars looking neat anyhow lee. coming along.
What you say is right to be honest. there only novas at the end of the day. worthless really. Just a bit of fun tbh.

Given up trying to make it look pretty for show. the car sits on a drive uncoverd all its life. used daily ect ect . just no chance in keeping it mint.
But i can live with that.

jbobo - Meetings are the 2nd Sunday of every month from 1pm.... saying that most people start turning up 2 ish!!

We meet at the TGi Fridays / Cheadle Royal Pub car park which is next door to David Lloyd Tennis Centre, Which is across the road from John Lewis & Sainsburys...

Chris - wots your point?? :?: if its about power figures, i said Brett W had his done at GRV Littleborough (good outfit from all accounts) he had a few runs all achieved around 202bhp running the TP208 throttle body kit, i hoped to achieve the same if i ever get up there... ( i have the same kit as brett but have the slightly newer ecu MBE967) Why would some where like that make up bhp figures?? we are both running the suggested set up from sbd, there kit with the type c manifold.... I wanted throttle bodies for the noise they make (more reliable than a LET and more robust), i looked at carbs but they would more than likely need resetting every so often, out of tune etc.. now mines set up i can just forget about it... well i hope i can  plus it leaves you with more room in the engine bay than a LET would.

Im fortuante to have a company vehicle thats why mine doesnt get used everyday otherwise i would probably have no choice but use mine or buy a cheap run about, plus i have a garage so i keep the car in it!!

Cheers

Throttle bodies do make a lovely sound, but if carbs are set up properly, they will remain in tune for lengthy periods of time (i know you said every so often, but people may read it as every month).

Dan got his 1.6 on carbs set up at Velos over a year ago. He went back there recently to see if they needed resetting and they were as good as when they were first set up. The BHP and Torque readings were almost identical (the weather conditions were totally different to when he went over a year ago, plus his car was spinning on the rollers, so if anything he is probably running a little more BHP now the engines bedded in).

Throttle bodies do allow you more control, but carbs are almost as good, if not just as good ;)

and for those on a budget who dont have ?s for management and Tbs carbs are very cheap for the potential bhp gains with other engine internal work.......

27-04-04, 03:43 PM
My point was as stated. there are people out here who like carbs. just saying like. And just saying we dont all own a garage. and we dont all have a show nova. and we dont all have company cars.

just me point!

Dont get me wrong, i do like carbs but wanted hassle free motoring as im not that good doing my own mechanics!!! even though i did set the TB's up ok and balance them all!! SBD then mapped the car up accordingly, what a difference that made!! on performance & fuel consumption!!

A gorgous carb'd example would be Martin Kelsons with Twin 48's!!

My throttle bodies were bought 2nd hand, I managed to find everythng i needed in the back of Fast CAr!! It turned out to be Damian Pitman..(remember his nova...a white one...?) he had bought everything new for his astra from SBD, but ended taking everything off as he couldn't get on with them... i got everythng i needed about ?1,000 cheaper than buying new. Bargain. All i bought etc was braided lines and connectors, new Fuel Pressure Reg & gauge, header&catch tank.... If it hadn't been for this find i reckon id still be a standear XE. Big thanks goes to Damian because he waited for 6 months till i got the money together...

Cheers

Nick
