After fitting my 300mm steering wheel i realised that the digidash isnt the best to have when it comes to viewing things like the rev counter etc. In true fashion i hated the idea of buying another rev counter and didnt want a piddly cheapo thing that needed binoculars to see, so set out to mid mount a standard rev counter where the stereo used to go.

here's the result, its about 70% done now and fully functional, just needs securing properly and painting/perspex screen fitting over whole area

http://www2.novaload.net/files/dan/car/rev.jpg

Its prob not the best place but as i dont run a stereo the hole was handy and how it looks isnt an issue as its practical :D

I've considered mounting an MK2 XR2 rev counter on top of the dash, but might think again and put it there. nice one

Hmm, that looks pretty good. I might try that on mine, rather than have a 6 dial dash

Dan

cheers for the comments guys, as i said it is just for practicalty over style but for the sake of the earth and live robbed from the fag lighter and a linking wire from my rev limiter/shiftlight thing it was an easy option.

The dash did require cutting so once done there's no going back and the best tool in the world for shaping the surrounds and dash is a dremmel.

Dan, why dont you pinch another couple of gauges out the 6 dial dash and put either side? like oil one side, and temp the other? that way, you have all the important dials duplicated so if one goes down, you still have a backup!

Dan
06-03-04, 07:57 PM
mainly cos the dials aren't round and it was bad enough just sorting it so the counter fitted with a surround. I did think about it but being as that was my major need thats all I did but for others that have patience its something to try. The biggest problem is securing them when in that position as abs no fixing points at all so need to cobble something up or do it the long way and remove the dash completely but sod that lol

fair do's mate. Looks good. Will look the absolute nuts when you get the perspex! i think i have some in the garage. Want me to hunt it out for ya?

Dan
06-03-04, 08:50 PM
nah i'm gonna shave down the original curved stuff from the original dash so it is completed as a budget attempt with the materials off the original dash and rubbish in me garage lol, before that i gotta spray the area black and loose the blue

Only except it doesn't look like that anymore.. lol

Looks useful anyway, know what you mean about the small steering wheel and not being able to see the dash properly though.. can be a pain, but when your a short arse like me its not too bad

dan ur problem wiv fixing the rev counter to its new home have u thought of using arraldite?????. bloody good stuff will fix most things to anything!

you need to light it for night time viewing

but it does look good,

i was tempted to make a 'pod' using my old counter and some old jar or similar, but gave up in the end, so well done.

Dan

i got the fixing bit sussed its the getting my arse in gear to finish it thats the prob lol. Also the light thing isnt a prob, nothing an old led from an alarm or summin from around me garage sunk into the dash wont fix.

get one of those ultra bright spot led.s You could mount it in the roof and it will still light up the rev counter, like a mini spotlight!

08-03-04, 02:15 PM
i had a 300mm steering wheel, with flat top and bottom, and couldn't see ANY of the dials! should have just done that lol

wouldn't it be better to have it on top of the dash or on top right of dash in bottom of window?

Dan
09-03-04, 12:20 AM
as said i didnt want to spend any money or have some fast and furious rubbish i.e stuck to top of dash in some form of a surround or whatever, this is purely a totally cost free way of moving/fitting a rev counter of decent size so it is still visible. also top of the dash has my revlimiter/shift lights on and would be to cluttered

Ben
09-03-04, 12:27 AM
Dan what rev limiter are you using with the coil ignition system?

Dan
09-03-04, 12:45 AM
the limiter i have is an Armtech speedshift. great little toy at a reasonable price for what it has. the limiter is smooth cut for 500rpm then goes to hard cut.

Ben

Where you source that from Dan, easy to fit?

http://www.armtech.co.uk/product/ss.htm

3 wires to get basics working and additional wire if you want to fit the clutch pedal for full throttle shift etc which i cant be arsed to do lol
