View Full Version : Shud i just break the bloody nova?

Rick Draper
05-03-04, 05:08 PM
Right i recon within 2 weeks i can have my nova running, then it needs to go to the bodyshop and be tarted up BUT I really have lost interest in it, going out and getting ratted is much more fun and TBH i look at the nova and i am just spending more money on it for the sake of spending money. This week for instance i have brought a new intercooler and a race clutch for it costing ?1k, i am still waiting for the turbo and am becoming more and more disillusioned with it all the time. Rick

fookin hell :o

i will NEVER understand why so many people build such great cars then break them before or not long after there built

WHY start in the first place if ur only gonna end up breaking it anyway?!

i think u should get it finished, drive it, enjoy it, THEN re-assess the situation, if u break it now u'll only regret it in the future :(

Finish it and sell it complete. You'll get a pittance back if you break it. I am an expert in breaking a decent car and losing 90% of the money you put into it....

Finish the fucker and I'll buy the **** off you!

?Marty?
05-03-04, 06:11 PM
Break it while the parts are still new/unused, you will get more for it than as for the whole car.

It would be an amazing car if finished, but it's not going to be used [much] anyway and there's not much point in spending THAT much on it in that case, then there's the storage and etc.

You could have been driving round in a brand new 350Z or an RX7 with shitloads of mods (imported from Jap land) and etc for that money.

But then again, the Nova would be completely unique and etc. Though the way it'll be, it'd be like having a suitcase filled with cash sitting on top of your wardbrobe. Ocassionally taking it out and counting it. Why bother, go spend it! lol

Come on Breeny, stop changing your mind...oh sorry Rick, thought you were Breeny for a minute :P

Stop being a nancy and get it finished. You earn enough money to work on the Nova and go and get ratted.

Seems as though you have all the bits now so why not just finish it? Otherwise you will allways wonder what it would of been like. Everyone gets the blues when modding cars though most are not at the stage you are at. You will have one of the fastest novas around so why not enjoy all your hard work for atleast one summer?

Finish it, which as you say will only take 2 weeks, and i can assure you once you have driven it you will kick your self for thinking about selling it. Ive been there many times rick.

And the few bits that need doing at the bodyshop are minor compared to what you have done so far

well it seems that you should keep it, the reason being ''so other people can see it finished''. So you're now building it/spending the money on it for the benefit of others and not even for yourelf.

More good reason to strip it.

I vote break it..

As you said on msn you've obviously had enough of the car and I know how much you've started to hate it and theres only one thing to do when that happens.. You will feel much better for it afterwards :D

Well like I say to everyone, no matter what I or anyone else says, you will do what you want, if you feel as Breeny said, cut your losses and get rid. End of the day the choice is yours.

Personally I would love to see your car finished, what is two weeks? Remember when you said to me "u wont regret the turbo conversion". Finish it, enjoy it for a while then do what you have to do, you might even wanto to keep it then.

I had exactly this feeling when I was about a month into my engine rebuild! Its an arse when it happens!!

I'm glad I got it all running properly. My advice is to finish it, drive it some, then decide whether its time to give it the gooner.

06-03-04, 10:18 AM
Keep it for sure!!!
If it's doing your head in that much just put it in the garage and forget about it for a few months, I guarentee once you have walked around the PV show or Billing for an hour or 2 you will have loads of ideas & be glad you did'nt sell.
Like the other's have said, it's been such a long time coming you have got to finish it

i voted break it (cos i clicked on the wrong button lol)

if you dont drive it you'll never know what it would have been like.

it would be like going out with Pamela Anderson for 6 months while you wine and dine her and then sacking her off two weeks before you get to fuck her. you'll allways wonder if she would have been any good

mind you rick can get me a 1st class flight home to do it lol

leave it to the coin gods. get a 50pence piece and flip it, best of 3

Finish it. I felt like this last month when my car had to come out of the spray shop after just being primered. I was gonna sell all the parts and get and rst. Im well glad i didnt now. If not how much for car as it is?

06-03-04, 09:30 PM
Rick,
I voted for you to keep it, but my advice to you, get the bits on the car, get it running, and then leave it alone! Your problem seems to be as soon as it gets to a running state you pull it to pieces to add more shit to it. Get it on the road and enjoy it, at the moment it's just a money pit because you don't get to use it. Finish it off and go burn up some Jap Crap ;)

Yep, its all part of his publicity campaign :P Apparently hes going to have pole dancing at the unveiling of his car. I'm not 100% sure, but I think he's got Ian, Dan and Cambridge in skimpy underwear parading round his car at PV, LOL

I understand exactly what you mean

I went through the same thing, do I finish the car off or do i sell it.

I got so pissed off and not interested that it literally sat in the garage for months on end with out been touched.

Best advice I can give, is to STOP

Just foeget about it for a while and enjoy other things you like doing. Eventually you will feel like you want to work on the car again

This worked for me, but you may find it doesnt work

LOL just thinking over what i shud do with it, got offers on a lot of the bits, the only bit i will not prob sell is the shell as i will get it crushed :| Really looking into getting something like a 20v turbo golf and a R1 for summer, with the roads around me i cud have plenty fun on the R1 and just use the golf for commuting. Rick,
I would sell it and buy a newer car, as you know, I was going for another nova again, but I decided on a different car and I couldn't be happier.

If you do get rid, dont get a golf though, they are big and bulky and are no fun to drive at all. I test drove the R32 golf before buying my car and was very disappointed with it. I also had a race with an R32 on the A34 in Handforth and kicked it's arse and they cost more than my Evo 7 did! I know you mentioned about the 20v turbo and not the R32, but they are still slow and lifeless!

lol, yeah but my run of bad luck with cars has followed me to this one aswell.

Last week I stopped at a set of lights and a blonde bird in a punto drove straight into the back of me and smashed the rear end of my car!!! :(
it's not as bad as I first thought and her insurance is sorting it, but it means I am without the Evo for a few weeks :(

still, that's just a personal opinion. My mate has had an Evo 6 (Ralliart import), A Subaru and etc etc, and says the R32 (i think - is it the 3.2 4 wheel drive one?) is the best one he's had yet. Has 19" wheels on it and etc. Looks brilliant.

i was fittin some lights at the local vw garage and couldnt resist havin a look at the r32 and it is well mint especially the seats
would deffo love a test drive

I have a friend who works in a VW dealership, he's driven the R32 and he's a massive fan of Dubs and stuff.. but says he wasn't that impressed with the performance.

Bloody nice cars though.. I wouldn't say no.. lol

Buy the R1 anyway!

I'd go for the R6 personally, it's cheaper and it's more agile into corners. My mate has one and when I had my Kwak ZX-6R he used to burn me! I ride his R6 in summer (when i can borrow it) and it is sooooooooooo cool to cruise! And NOTHING has beat me yet on it (in a straight line! i don't like banking on someone elses bike even if he's my best mate!)

Ha Ha, your mad Rick!

I voted Break it just so I can bid for some parts.....

Ha Ha, just think all that Money for nothing if you break it..
The R1 is Boring! Get a nice YZ250.... Buy some land and hire a digger! Thats where real funs at

Just think... a 20v Turbo and an R1 are exactly the same as all the others that are out there... NOTHING SPECIAL. But your car is something truely Special!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see you where looking at buying an f28 on mig rick. Youre thinking of stripping it but yet you are still looking to buy bits.

I think you secretly want to finish the car  But completely understand if you decide to strip it. Nows the time as evrythings brand new. Just seems a waste mate as its time to turn the key and have some fun.

There isnt many things you could buy off the shelf that would give the same buzz.

Anyway dont listen to me, do what you thinks right. At the end of the day mate its only car, and it isnt worth worrying about

Yep buying a F28 as that way IF I decide to finish it i have one with a LSD fitted, if i break it i dont think i will loose any money on the F28 as its up for not a lot of cash anyway!

Things however have taken a turn for the worse today though as the turbo supplier has let me down  and it looks like if i want to finish it i will have to get a different turbo and probably a whole custom exhaust manifold   So fucking pissed off as its been on order for over a month now.
