F13 CR with 4.53 diff from an Astramax van or a 4.18 diff from a Nova 1.3SR

The higher the diff ratio then the quicker your acceleration will be

Ive not experienced a 4.53 but if its going to be for road use also the 4.18 is ample imo, and 'generally' sourced from nova sr f10 boxes

how are diffs identifiable, per number of teeth or what...???

The code stamped on the end cover of tne gearbox has the diff ratio stanped on it, otherwise yes number of teeth.

Ive been told to get a nova deisel box cuz they give more torque & better accel.

I know nothing on gear boxes though so dont shout at me if thats wrong lol

lol the td box is lower reving than my f10/5 wr/....... low revs in 5th = slow acc

i went from a 3.14 (i think?)

to a 4.18

the transformation was amazing.

aceleration is something :+:

unless your a real rally slag. i wouldnt go any further than a 4.18

its ample and does the job.

on the motorway sat between 70 and 80 its bearable.

i think any more and it would annoy me

found out that epc says only, e16se c16nz and c14se have close ratio, which is wrong i know but heres the cr related codes on the box..
http://img11.photobucket.com/albums/v34/mikeyredtop/PhoE9.jpg
and the diffs are identifiable via grooves on the ring gear, 4.18 has no grooves, 3.74 has 5 grooves and 3.94 has 3 grooves

heres a list of codes and what diff they refer to...on nova's!
http://img11.photobucket.com/albums/v34/mikeyredtop/box4.jpg
1, 2, 3, 4 = 4.18
5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 = 3.94
7, 13, 14 =3.74
16 = 3.53
i found 4.53 to be in corsa b's f13's
also found a 4.29 in a corsa too which could be a better go between from 4.18 to 4.53..

couldnt find any codes yesterday on my gearbox but could still be hidden under some crud, there is definatly no code on the end cover tho that was easy to access, all i found were part numbers...

its not on the end cap... it's on the edge of the gear set housing

Is it in a different place on post 1986 transmissions without the big nut on the outside of the cover? I've never been able to find mine either.

that will be why i cant find mine, as mine hasnt got that circular cap on the end either.. i suppose if ur lookin for a cr box itle be easier cos they are older, and actually have the stamp...

my cr box was in a j reg
ditto

my gearbox comprises of parts from a D reg, an F reg, and a J reg.

all of the codes were in the same place on the casing.
