You ought to be ok with light smoke. Law recommends front side windows must let at least 70% light thru, and windscreen 75% (no regulations on rear sides or back window).

To tint them, remove the glass, give it a good clean with meths or white spirit (make sure they're good and dry before you apply the tints tho). Cut the tints roughly to shape, spray the glass lightly with some soapy water. The hardest bit is peeling the backing off the tints, i suggest getting someone to hold it up whilst you peel the tint off. Spray a bit of soapy water on the tint, and lay it on the window. You should be able to move it around a little bit to get it in the right place. Use a window cleaning squeegee thing with a little more soapy water on the back of the tint so it slides over it well, and a towel to remove the air bubbles and squeeze all the water out. Cut off any excess tint to it fits the window nicely.

When all the bubbles are removed and it fit well, gently dry round the edge of the tint to remove any excess water. Go over the edge with some nail varnish to stop it from peeling off.

Once thats dry, "refitting is a reverse sequence to removal" (c) Haynes lol

hope that helps

not a bodyshop job. Most shops that specialise in ICE will give you the number of a mobile tinter.

usually around ?200 - ?250

also look in yellow pages-

also, the professional stuff is thicker and is applied with heat not water. So it stays on better!

Have a go yourself mate,
theres no way i would hand over 200 notes of my cash for just getting me windows tinted, even if i did look better. You don't know what your attempt will look like yet, is it worth the extra 200 quid to get them done.

i know, i can think of better things to do with ?200 than tints!

i few more questions though, how do the driver/passenger windows drop out, the same way as the back 3? Also what the deal with the quarter lights at the front, are they just the same>?

one word of advise (well more than one)

dont attempt the back window tourself. It curves in two directions and the max power filw WILL NOT stretch so it cant be done neatly without cutting it. I tinted my side windows and they came out perfect. I paid for the rear to be done.

Also, if you do attempt a window and then tear the film off, make sure you clean all the glue off before it dries as it's a bugger to get off when it's dry!

If you want your Nova tinting, with a guarantee as long as you own the car, go to

http://www.tint-yer-car.com

Price for all 5 windows on a 3 door Nova is about ?190 all inclusive. This price is for most of the types of film, including all shades of grey, blue, green etc. Safety film is also available to help prevent breakins. The company is based in Runcorn.

Hope this helps?

I second that, the glue is a major headache to remove when dry.

I've done two sets of my own windows and got pretty good. Also going to do a mates on saturday. So its pretty easy to get the hang of.

To remove the driver/pass window then take the door trim off, and remove the bolt that holds the window gutter (with the door open its down the side nearest the car.) There are also two screws in the door frame at the top - undo these so you can move the gutter around and take it out in a minute. Remove the window rubbers along the bottom edge on the inside and outside to give you a bit of room to play with. Then its just a case of shimmying the window up and down (in the process releasing the winder mechanism from its rail - you'll see what i mean when you look at it) and sliding it out through the gap where it would normally wind up thru.

To remove the quarter windows, take the window gutter out that holds the quaters in place, and just slide them out.
