Well it could be that the tranducer terminals inside have rusted off, & stopping it from working.

the unit is sealed. I cant see how it would rust.

someone was saying a while ago about using one from an spi nova. Anyone heard of this?
geordie_racer

on the 8v dash u can use a 1.2spi nova transducer but the letters for them are AA if i remember rightly could give it a go tho as there cheap from a scrappy

I have the dash with the blip is that the 8v
My transducer has the code (AH)
geordie_racer
02-03-04, 05:53 PM
both the blip and curve dashes where found in both 16 and 8v gte's so you can't just say like that. du not no anybody with a 1.2i nova? if so just borrow there transducer the car will run without it fine. just check for 1.2i and 1.4i nova's in the scrap yard and keep an eye on the codes as they seem to change on sum nova's aswell

If I do get hold of one from a spin will it show up the correct speed?
geordie_racer
02-03-04, 08:15 PM
if it has the same letters as your current transducer then it will yes, also dont forget theres a red switch on the dash which also affects the speedo reading.

I took My previous tranny apart which had rusted & did not work.
Can you not just nick one from a scrappie + its a shame its an 8v tranny as i have a 16v tranny here.

the 1.2i does have a transducer it sits between the cable and the gearbox and the wiring connects into a piggyback device behing the inlet manifold i know this because i used to own one mine was knackered giving random ecu fault codes. the last working one i had i sent to somebody off here but can't remember who

Right i have looked at epc as i said i would and have found the following,
For the broken transducer you hav AH you can use the transducer from nova marked AA as they are both six pulse transducer. The nova transducer can befound on the following engines according to epc,
C12NZ(1.2i nova)
C14SE(1.4 sri)
C14NZ(1.4i nova)
C16SE(gte or gsi nova?)
Those details are correct according to epc which as most no is the official vaux parts catalogue so should not be wrong, so you should be able to get a 1.2i nova transducer for ?5 max just check it's an aa.
Also as a point of interest you can get a 15 pulse transducer from a nova with a 13N engine(don't think these were released in the uk) which should work with the 16v dash.

GTE's, are you sure?

i was a bit puzzled aswell when it said gte and for the life of me i cant remember back to the last gte engine i saw. Anyway it makes sense because the transducer measures the distance the car travels and converts it to pulses which the dash uses to display speed.
Anyway point was a 1.2i transducer should work fine on your dash and there easily available so go get one!

the transducers in novas weren't for displaying speed. The transducers in novas were duel function. The had a cable and a transducer. the cable drove the speedo like any other nova. The transducer just fed information to the ecu for the engine.
geordie_racer

you can use a nova transducer ive done it before and yes i know it has a slightly different function on the nova but it works fine with the digi dash
chris

04-03-04, 01:44 PM
thats not what i was saying. You siad it makes sense you can use a nova one because in the nova it generates pulses and sends them to the dash to disply the speed. It doesn't. It send the pulses to the ecu only. It has a cable that goes from the gearbox to the dash that rotates to display the speed.

Aragorn
05-03-04, 05:40 PM
its also not a good idea to connect it to the battery directly
use an ignition live instead
the purpose of the sender in the nova is to tell the ecu how fast your going so it can adjust fuelling n stuff
and also the C16SE was a late GSI engine - the GTE and early gsis had the e16se which does not have that sender
