if it has it'll be under the glve box, or below it in the kick well
They are pretty easy to identify, basically a black box with multiplugs in the back of it.
As has been said only injection engines have them.

Are you sure you cant get mk1 12i's i thought you could
an ecu is the acronym for electronic control unit. that could actually be the description for any switch, or electronic device capable of changing a voltage characteristic. sorry, I've had too much stella......no ecu fitted on a mk1 1.2 unless it has had a later lump fitted....

Your talking shit now. You cant change the characteristic of a volt. A volt if a predifined unit and if you change anything about it, then it wouldn't be a volt.
A BETTER description is 'a device that controls certain processes depending upon certain conditions'
i.e, it monitors the condition of the engine (speed, temp, air temp, air speed, load) and then decides the best amount of fuel to put into the cylinder via the injectors.
So stop pretending you know everything!
chill the fuck out.
did you not note the "had too much stella" part?? he got keen and prehaps missed the odd word or two.

u can get ecu's with carb's i think. Don't mk4 escorts have an ECU with carb.
Maybe totally wrong.

16sv had an ignition ecu and was carbed
infact every car with electronic ignition including the 1.4sr etc all had a very simple ecu controlling the ignition system
and the 1400 in my car now started life as a 1.4 spi in a mk1 h plate 1990 nova saloon so they did make injected mk1's
