ive got a mk2 1l and its using quite a bit of oil, ive noticed on the drive theres oil it aint in a pool just looks like drops that have dripped down. I checked the sump and all dry no signs of leaking. I noticed that where the sump joins to the engine block above the oil filter (hope you understand) there is alot of oil what could this be?How is it leaking?what causes it?

any help would be a great help!

mine leaked big time out og main oil seal behind flywheel and slowly dripped out of clutch cover plate. used full sump a week. what had happened was the seal had slowly worn the crank away over time and left a ridge there so oil could escape. this was due to high miles and dirt in oil probably eroding it. new crnk and seal and she was sorted
