Right,
i have heard a lot about adding a Weber carb to replace the Peiburg(spelling) . But i want to know what all the numbers are about, like
Weber 32/34
32/36
Twin 40
etc
and DCOEwhat are the numbers (sizes?)
all of which i keep seeing added to Novas.
I get the idea that the twin versions are two carbs but how do they fit onto one carb inlet. :?:

What is involved when people say re-jetting to get them to fit, i presume it is altering there fuel/air intake to a specific engine.

And finally what parts are needed to fit them, as they seem a good buy for about ?90-second hand, how much would a garage charge to fit them.

Thanks for any help guys
:D

32/34 is basically the direct replacement for the nasty pierburg that SRs came with.
32/36 is the same as the 32/34 but with a slightly bigger second choke/barrel.

Twin 40s are 2 carbs that each have 2 barrels, one for each cylinder. You need 2 and a suitable manifold for a complete setup. DCOE refers to the type of twin 40s. DCOE is the one you want ideally.
The 40s will give you the biggest power increase over standard, but you ideally need a performance cam and head work to get the most out of them.

Re-jetting and choking is basically changing the fuel and air levels to suit your engine.

32/34 & 34/36 can easily be fitted at home, and if from another nova are unlikely to need much adjustment. 40s will need setting up at a rolling road to get the most out of them..

Hope that helps mate :D

How much would a manifold for twin 40's for a 1.4SR engine cost? And what sort of gain would you get?

this is the point where things start getting tricky

the 14sr had a shitty cylinder head

most folk doing a t40 converesion would fit a 1300 or 1200 cylinder head and use a 1300 inlet as the 1300(and 1200) has much nicer inlet ports

a manifold for either will cost about ?120 new

So can a 32/36 weber fit a the same cars that a 32/34 can fit. Would it be more powerful if the inlet is bigger.
And is the fitting just a case of undoing the original carb and fitting on the weber, if it has been jetted for your engine(or an engine similar)
And finally are the 40's bigger than the 32/34( which looks pretty obvious to me)
And does the 32/34 indicate twin choke, one size 32 and the other 34.

Thanks for the info guys, you have really cleared a lot of stuff up for me. :D

yer 32/34 is twin choke

i'd think a 32/36 would be overkill on a 1.4 tho

with twin 40's u have a 40mm butterfly for each cylinder (normally choked down to around 32mm)

with the 32/34 uve got one 32 and one 34mm inlet for all 4 cylinders

OK, thanks, know i know the differences between the different types of Weber.

thanks for the info Aragorn

I've got a 1.2 at the mo and planning on getting a 1.4SR engine for it, so am I right in thinking if i wanted to bolt on some twin 40s to this i'd be better off taking the head and inlet off the 1200 and putting these on the 1400 engine? If so is it pretty much a straight swap or does the 1200 head require any machining/jiggling with to fit?

straight swap.....

i have 1.2 head T40s inc manfild anf linkage and top bracket from a nova sport F/S ?220 they have been for sale forever and will be, the moment some1 yurns up on my doorstep with the cash they can have the lot :D

i have twin 45 dellorto DHLA's on mine just to confuse you more lol.

twin 40's would do ures the world of good. so when you fancy getting a cam or/ and the head flowed they are more tunable to get more power

WQould you benefit better from getting a 1.4SRi(that can't have much upgraded, just chip etc), but is already more powerful than the 1.4SR, or getting a 1.4SR and fitting a performance exhaust, Weber 32/34 carb and Ramair filter.
Which performs better, carb or injection. Which of the two is more reliable.
Thanks

So is that your 1.4SR with Twin 40's. what sort power gains did you get from them. And did you get them set up at a rolling road or did you do it your self. Thanks for the pic.

Completely nothing to do with this topic, but saves starting a new one.
Do MK2 1.4SR's have the same dials as the MK1. Oil,Voltage,Petrol, Temperature,Speedo,Tacho.
Thanks

yep, the dials are the same. You can also get 6 dial clocks on some non-SR/GTE/GSi models, altho i'm not sure which ones.
