Hi guys, been looking for a close ratio box for my 1.2i nova but very hard to find here in ireland. Can I change the diff in my nova for one with a smaller ratio to help with acceration? What car can i find one in to suit (apart from an SR, none scrapped here) thanks.

change the FD (diff gear and little gear, put in laymans terms) to a larger number, i think yours will be approx 3.84 or something, put a 4.18 (rare now) or a 4.53 (even rarer) in and you will get faster (to an extent) acceleration but lose approx 5% top end speed on a 4.18 and 10% on a 4.53

Any Idea what car I could find these ratios in, or can I order them new from somewhere? Thanks for the help.

4.53 diff in Astramax van
4.18 in 1.3SR

Coupled with an F13 close Ratio nand you'll have an extremely quick little car!

4.18 are most common in F10 gearboxes.

ill assume the F16 is a big block box.

we tried to swap an FD on a bigblock box a while back, its NOT as easy/straight forward as it is on the small block boxes.

the pinon (i think thats the name of the little one lol) is part of the output shaft, which means to swap the FD and keep your existing gear ratios then you need to strip the shaft down and transfer from your existing one.

not hard, but you will need long reach pullers (about 12" min i think) and a methodical approach.

maybe i'll leave that then. Unless i get a really rainey weekend with nothing else to do. give me a chance to try out the propane heater in the garage.
