Hi Guys,

Sorry if this is the wrong newsgroup, but it doesnt seem to be.

I am very new to cars (I've just decided to learn to drive at 32 and
got hold of my frist practice car over the weekend)

I got a 1991 Vauxhall Nova and it seems to be a good runner, I know
nothing about maintaining cars but am very willing to learn on my own
car :)

However I have a problem with the indicator lights. Basically, when
you turn on an indicator, neither of the indicators at the front or
back light up. There isn't the clicking noise but the green indicator
light inside the dash does light (It doesnt flash though and I am not
sure if its supposed to, I guess so)

When I put the hazards on, everything lights up and flashes fine.

Can anybody point me in the general direction of what could be wrong
and possible remedy.

Thanks in advance.

Craig

i have this problem sometimes, been told it could be the relay!

would be good to find out if one of the experts knows if it is and how to fix it!

Could be a bad relay, or possibly even a dodgy indicator switch. Try replacements from a scrapyard, ought to be able to pick them up for pennies and dead easy to fit (see haynes lol)

yep. Take a look and you'll see a bunch of relays in there, headlights, door buzzer, indicators etc.

Whilst you're there u could stick in a headlight buzzer off a Astra3, sounds much better than the standard nova one :)

Mine does that when I take the Hazard switch out or if I've broke it. Although that does also mean that the hazards don't do anything as well. Probably not the solution but may be worth investigating...

if u mean the headlight/door buzzer, the ones i've seen have been either grey or black. Easy to spot as they're shorter than nova ones (nova ones being rectangulaar and astra 3 ones being square) and have a groove and holes down one side for the buzzer
