View Full Version : 11k on a car
if you had 11k to spend on a newish car that was over 180bhp, that was still in the realms of insurability??
what would you have?
I'm sure you could pick up a good condition Evo/Scooby for that money. A friend bought a wrx sti scooby for around ?7k. It was very fast and the handling was amazing. I don't care what people say, you can't get better power/handling for ?6k. However, I'd prefer an Evo though ;)

2. Astra coupe turbo (190bhp-ish)
3. Civic Type R (197 bhp - i think?)

when you say insureability what d'you mean
my first choice wiv 11k to play wiv would be
a cossie
but being group 20 insurance... not cheap
can't find a completely standard 'big turbo' escort cossie in imperial blue for that but when i do insurance is only ?1200 atm so gonna wait 2/3 years to see if it comes down
want a stepping stone between though don't just wanna jump into sommant and crash it!

mk3 golf VR6's am pretty rapid aint sure about the BHP
but know one left my dads old bmw 325i for dead
but then again them beemers am fast & fun & you can get one for about 3k or the slip stream ons for about 6k-7k thats 4 a good one...
Celica GTFour! And plenty left for insurance and some nice fluffy dice lol
nissan pulsar gtir, pick em up from 3-6 grand, and are tunable
astra gsi mk3 pick em up 4 2k onwards for a clean one with high miles rip the engine out and put a calibrs/cav turbo lump in with big power for less then 6 k all in, but still only 2wd
or a mk2/3 golf with an 1.8 turbo lump in :D

Dont count on the insurance coming down, I had an MR2 Turbo about 18 months ago and was paying around ?900 fully comp, when I got a quote for one a few weeks ago, it was ?1200 and I now have a years more no claims and am 25.
I would go for a scooby or an evo. :D

Gotta admit theres loads out there at ur price range with plenty of power.. just depends if u want the realiable handling of FWD's... the SCARY AS FCUK RWD's or the amazingly easy to drive 4x4's
I personally would go for sommat RWD as its r8 fun but u will need good insurance :p but hey its all personal choice but an M3 Evo would be pucker
If its 4x4 Pulsar Gti-R is wicked and Sierra Cossies are wicked (and Escorts look better but the insurance is stupid)
FWD the Astra Turbo atm aint cheap enough... i'd really look into the Skoda Octavia vRS its wicked, well made and loads of fun

A mate of mine just got one there well under ratted and fast as fuck!! plus you can get the ass out big style! :D
Big wing Sierra Cosworth. You could get a concourse one for ?6k-8k nowadays, classic insurance too.... That would be MY choice.....
I wouldn't buy ANY new/nearly new car. they aren't built to last anymore. and you get shafted on insurance.
Buy an older car and get classic insurance!!

poor mans skyline , may as well have a sticker on the back "i couldn't afford a skyline"
LOL that is true ste but they are good, they have v tunable engines and people dont expect them to be as fast as they are
:D Fiat coupe 20v turbo.....nice
you are right ste but the gearboxes and clutches cant cope with big boost and power, as you probably already know. But if upgraded i wou;d believe should be pretty reliable and would be under warrenty.
my old man has a suburu forester, its a rare metallic grey, (import), cot some subtle bodykit and is fucking rapid, it can beat my mates twin turbo supra off the lights, but thats only due to 4 wheel drive, its only at about 60-70 the supra startss to pull away. il post pics soon.
if you want a fast car how about a tuned up toyota starlet turbo :D
does it buy a lotus carlton
You'd need about another ?5k for that..... and then the insurance... ouch

what would you have?

in my opinion....
E36 m3 evo- for smooth as fook bitch mobile
SCOOBY sti- for brute power and ULTIMATE noise
Corrado vr6- future classic
Pulsar Git-r- fast as FUCK, but based on a sunny :(
Cossie- amazing cars, but pricey
mate if youre going to be spending five figures on a motor then you want something wit a bit of class. my choice would be the M3 EVO, as it has the power, style, image and everything else you could ask for... insurance though
that was still in the realms of insurability??
