On our 2.0l 16v Black car the clutch slips in 4/5 gear but isnt to bad in the other three.

The car had a new clutch fitted in December.

Have been told by various people that the rear crank shaft seal is gone and leaking oil onto the clutch plate casuing the slip, but i thought this caused drag? also a bit dubious how this can be diagnosed without remvoing the gearbox, anyone got any ideas to test any theory without removing the gearbox first.

while driving along slowly in 1st, pop her info 5th and plant it. if it revs nicely then tis fooked

also while stationary, hand brake on, in 1st ease the clutch up and see if you move (should do)

do again in 2nd

if the engine revs up sort of freeish then tis fooked

can also do it in reverse too lol

icve had an oily clutch for about 2 years now and tis not a problem unless its really really cold outside.
