I have got a nice set of g-max lowerings springs, and to my amazment the local shop told me it'd be 80 quid to fit them.

I've herd i can do the back ones myself, but i'l need a spring compressor to do the front 2. So how do i do the back ones ?

What should i be paying for the front ones to be put on ?

cheers

you'll need the following.

1.Haynes manual. ?5 @ Car boot sale or on eBay or ?15 new. (read before posting in tech)

2.Coil Spring Compressors. ?10-?20

3.Jack and Axle Stands.

4.Some sockets and spanners.

I assume you have 3+4 If you wanna do the rears yourself. Won't take you long at all. Knowing my luck haynes probably doesn't include spring replacement lol

where abouts are you?

I payed about ?12 for my compressers and the job can be done within 1.5 hrs.

Dont pay ?80, do it your self youll save loads of money and you learn about your car too.

The front one's can be lethal in the wrong hands :!: Don't pay 80quid if you take your shock off take them to a garage and get them to do it should charge about 10each maybe a few quid more,The front's can be a pain in the arse.Where are you located mate?

Im in lancashire

I've looked at a quide for the rear ones. Basically i jack the car up, undo the lower mounting nut 19mm, then i undo the 19mm upper bolt from inside the boot under the rubber covers.. Then slide the shock out, prise the axle down and pull the spring out, put my lowering spring in and put everything back together !? sounds rather easy

the front ones look rather easy too.. but im not tooo sure about this spring compressor tool cos i don't want it slipping and a spring going in my face. I guess you have to compress them under alot of pressure !. But the front ones,

I just undo the lower nut and the two top nuts, pull the strut out and get a garage to swap the springs, then replace them and tighten everything back up, including the piston rod nut ?

Thing is.,..... i don't have a torque wrench neither can i afford to buy one ! argh

I've been using this quide

Can anyone give me a guide for just lowering springs, i guess the principal is just the same, apart from the fact that i don't need to swap stuff over.

in my box i also have a note saying " you must shorten bump stops by 20mm minimum" is that just a loada crap or do i really have to do it

Which way up do my springs go ?

the back ones look the same either way up ?

the front ones have a wider end and a narrower end ?
