cav SRI probs

a mate of mine has a cav SRI (2litre 16valve ecotec) an wen he starts out, either in 1st or 2nd gear, it suddenly lurches, feels like he's stamped on the brakes, then the engine management light comes on, but if he stops the car, plays around with the wirein the light goes off, an it drives ok, but the same problem keeps cumin back, any ideas?

cant think of anythin electrical that d make it do that. only thing is driveshaft. if its not sittin in cv right it will do that
