After an excellent track day at castle combe where I blew just about everything off the track, I and a few friends wentv for the usual trip to Southend. On the way back I decided to race a 2.0 16V Astra GTE which I was pulling away from when it came time to leave 4th gear (7,000rpm) at 110mph. Unfortuanately I didnt get 5th, but screamed the engine into 3rd. Bang, rattle, rattle, rattle, doh! Got taken home on recovery truck and took a look at damage yesterday morning. One snapped follower, destroyed collet, snapped valve (now hexagonal in shape), Huge hole in piston, severeley damaged head. All beyond repair.

I`m not too upset, as I managed to get the track day in first and like I said blew some very fast cars away around the track. Within 24hrs I had already started work on a new engine. Something bigger and better on the way.

If anyone wants to send contributions to the "help the dick that cant change gear campagne" then please feel free!

A more powerful one. I`ve been on the phone all morning, and I`ve now managed to get everything I need, so I can start work stripping the engine bay out tonight, so that I can prepare and make it look tidy for the new lump. Should be rolling within 2 weeks depending on weather.

Sorry to hear that MC, I wish I got to see the car at Castle Combe (im the one with the Nova GTE) ..my mate needed a hand with his prelude, sort of took more time than expected! This new project sounds mint! all the best!

I'd feel real bad for u except I know how ur minds working. U've def. got the tuning bug bad! Most people would cry for weeks if they'd just done that to their favourite ride!!!

"I thought I could handle it... it started when I saw an ad for a K & N filter and then before I knew where I was I was looking at new zorsts etc. Eventually I got into the really heavy stuff ...twin 40's (class 1 drugs) I tried getting counselling but they didn't understand. Then I started roaming the streets at nights for Saxos cos they were easy meat.. soon I was looking for Integra's. Every waking minute and my whole life was taken up with my need for... I feel too ashamed to say it....
